Just as tasty as Kelloggs (Tesco Value Bran Flakes)

Advantages: good value, big flakes, don't go soggy

Disadvantages: maybe calling them 'value' undermines the quality of the product

There is a constant battle in our house with me and my mother in law on one side, and my husband on the other. He thinks that branded food tastes better, we think that there is no difference. This has led in the past to us buying own brands and refilling the branded box but that's another story! (good money saving hint though for fussy men and kids!)

Ok, there are certain things that you really need to buy quality - tea, coffee and bread being among them - but Bran Flakes?

We started buying the value bran flakes thinking that surely bran flakes can't be much different between manufacturers. We were right. The Tesco value bran flakes are pretty much the same as the Kelloggs. There were two things that passed the test for me...

Firstly I don't like soggy cereal - I like it to be crunchy with just a hint of milk - I suppose you'd call it rare! lol!! Also I don't like all the little bits at the bottom of the packet as they go all mushy in the milk no matter how little you use.

The value bran flakes had neither of these problems. On opening the packet there were good sized flakes all the way down to the bottom with only the usual hint of dust at the very end. They were also strong enough to stand up to me putting milk on and then rushing off to find my mobile,leaving them to potentially go soggy. When I returned a couple of minutes later they were still fresh and crunchy. At around 70p a box they are often less than half price of the a lot of the bigger names for what appears to be the same product so well worth it!

Summary: Would buy again and again
