Advantages: It is cheap

Disadvantages: It is not particularly nice

I really do like my bread. I like the posh stuff with bits in, you know the wholegrain loveliness that some offer. I like malted breads. I love Scottish 'plain' bread (an acquired taste). then you have the mediteranean things like ciabatta and pitta breads. Then you have lovely Incian stuff like nan.

Then you have Tesco value bread!

Then you have the threadbare state of my wallet - sometimes I let the moths free!

Tesco value bread is just that - value. Whether it is good value is anybodys guess. However it is worth having one of these in to lurk in the background for things like toasted sandwiches, eggy fried bread, maybe even bread and butter pudding. Anything though but a straightforward sandwich.

I like to make from time to time stuff like croutons to snack on, and for their more obvious place i.e. tarting up your soup. This bread, although not perfect for this, does lend itself to croutons - for a start it is already on its way to being crisp!!!

And that is the whole thing avout this value bread, it is never going to be as fresh as you like. There is a little hardness to it and the edges are definitely always a little towards the hard side.

I simply can't put it down though because it is cheap, it is bread and bread can be versatile.

This is ideal for the family who are struggling on a small wage, and to be honest it is not that bad on a sandwich providing you have lots of tasty things between the bread.

At forty pence for a standard sized loaf, yes it is much cheaper than some other loafs - taking everything into account, you will need to decide for yourself whether it is value for money. I am undecided. It is useable, but could be cheaper.

You won't do yourself much harm by having one of these on standby in the freezer.

Summary: A godsend for anyone on a low income

I just read this after having given in the other day to buying Tesco value bread as if I have to pay for stale bread in my supermarket then I may as well get the cheapest!
