Advantages: Very cheap, half the price of any better alternatives...

Disadvantages: Often crumbles, very thin slices...

We all use bread, and most of us lots of it, but it's a fundamental way that you can save money each week, by opting for the cheaper alternatives. Kingsmill and Hovis generally cost between 80p and £1 depending on where you shop, whereas this Tesco loaf of bread costs only 45p, so it's quite alluring to those on a tight budget. Does it hold up at such a cheap price, though?

It's natural to expect something of a decline in the quality of the food when it's over half the price, but even with this in mind, the quality of the bread is mediocre at best. The slices are incredibly thin, and whilst we expect little flavour from a food element as base as bread, there's just nothing there. I also found that when spreading butter, marmite, peanut butter etc on it, that the bread tended to flake apart and not have the structural integrity (if such a word is appropriate for bread) that the likes of Kingsmill have.

If it was just the taste that differed, I could let this one slide, but everything about it just reeks of low quality food, and whilst it could have just been in my head, I'm sure that this bread went off quicker than my other quality loaves.

Whether I recommend this to you, and whether you should buy it depends on how you're balancing your budget as opposed to how much you want to enjoy quality food. It'll make do if things are really tight, but even me, who is a dirt poor student, will still opt for the 80p Kingsmill instead, so I can enjoy my sandwiches.

Summary: You'll see where that other 35p goes with other, better brands

I find cheaper bread often makes nicer toast...but I would never use this for sandwiches.

Totally agree, it did go off quicker than other brands. Have stayed away from this ever since. Good review x
