Advantages: Cheap, filling, isn't awful
Disadvantages: Very runny, a little harsh and a bit boring
Of late I've been trying to eat a little bit more. I tend to forget to eat or not be bothered the majority of the time. This is due to not being the worlds most wonderful cook, not being motivated to cook for one and really for me food is food and I don't enjoy it really but have to eat lol!
So when mooching around Tesco I decided that I would try this out. Not just cos it was cheap but I've never had a curry out of a tin before and was just interested to try it if the truth be told lol.
The Packaging....
Not as depicted in the review photograph at the top of this page at it has recently changed slightly. It's still a 392g tin with white label around it and on that I'm told it is Tesco 'Value' Chicken Curry With Vegetables, there is a photograph of the curry, and then on the bottom of the can I'm told it is microwavable in 4 minutes, it is medium in spice level and there is an at a glance nutritional chart. On the back of the tin I'm told how to heat it up, ingredients, allergy advice, cautions are given as are a full nutritional run down, the size and recycle symbol are displayed along with contact details for Tescos and finally there is a bar-code on there. It's an 'economy' looking can but it contains as much information as possibly need ad it's the food that counts after-all!
To Heat It....
On the hob, in a saucepan for 3-4 minutes or you can microwave it 3-4 minutes.
The Curry Itself.....
In the tin it's light brown colour and I was impressed that it didn't have a huge layer of grease to the top of it. It looked quite sloppy but with lot of diced vegetables in it and smelt curry like really. I heated it in a microwavable dish for 3 minutes and it was cooked (so I do advise you keep an eye on the cooking time if eating this).
It's very wet like soup really however it has got a fair few chunks of stuff in it. The sauce itself is nothing special at all. It's curried flavoured and rather than being a blended sauce it's just quite harsh and feels like all that's in it is curry powder but it is quite mild and smooth enough.
Within the curry there is 12% chicken which is small and cubed and light in colour. It looks like small chunks of chicken breast though I didn't feel there was a lot in there and really it may has well not of been in there because it didn't taste anyway!
The majority of vegetables in this was carrot and potato. Quite thick, very well cooked but again I found the carrots didn't taste and I felt they were purely there to bulk the meal out more than anything. The potatoes tasted and they tasted seasoned but I found there wasn't alot of green beans or onions in here at all. The sultanas again didn't taste of very much and overall I felt it was a bit too runny, smelt ok and fills your tummy but delicious...this isn't.
It's simply a none repulsive main meal type of thing if your in a hurry. I didn't hate it but for me the ingredients within this got lost in the curry powder!
