My mum made a chocolate sponge cake and I commented on how nice the icing was in the middle I was really surprised when she told me that it was chocolate spread, and not only that but Tesco's economy chocolate spread! It worked so well in the cake that I decided to try it out myself. The jar was 600g and cost 72p which was considerably cheaper than the premium chocolate spread brand "Nuttela" which I had purchased previously for around £1.70 for a jar a third smaller. The packaging consisted of a glass jar through which the product could be seen and a label in Tesco's distinctive red, white and blue value branding. Once I opened the jar and removed ... While I'm not really a fan, my granddaughters' all love chocolate spread on toast (and muffins, and bagels, and bread, and even off a spoon if I'm not being vigilant!). When my daughter came round today she brought a large 600g jar of Tesco Value Chocolate Spread, she knows I like trying the Value range and being such a brand snob she hadn't realised that this product has actually been available for some time and I have used it before. The chocolate spread has a very similar consistency to the Nutella I usually buy; it's thick enough to be easily able to spread it with a knife, yet not so thick that it will put holes into fresh bread as Nutella sometimes does ... If you asked me what to do with 600g of chocolate, I wouldn't normally say put it on toast, but in this case, I'll make an exception. Chocolate Spread has always been something I have steered clear of. I have a nut allergy, and so, with a lot of chocolate spreads having nuts put in with them, I never used to be sure what did and didn't have nuts in. These days, pretty much everything is labelled as to whether it has nuts in it or not, and last week, I had the bonus of doing the weekly shop of my own, without the level head of my wife telling me to stop buying that junk! As a result, I picked this up off the shelf. Sure, there were many other chocolate spreads ... Read the complete review

When I was younger there always seemed to be a tub of chocolate spread in the kitchen cupboard. Is this because I loved it so much? No, quite the opposite! Despite my sweet tooth there was something about chocolate spread which I simply did not like. However a short while back while i was stocking up on Marmite, my eye caught sight of the chocolate spreads a few shelves along. There and then I knew I wanted to give some a try, as it had been so long since I had done before. Perhaps my tastebuds had changed! I decided to go for the Tesco Value option, just incase I spent a fortune on Nutella and didn't actually like it! The 600g jar cost me 72p, which is not a ... Read the complete review

I am someone who has to have something on my toast other than just butter. A few months ago I started buying Nutella. This is a chocolate spread with Hazelnuts and very yummy, but it is quite pricey; £1.89 for a 400g jar. So last week while doing our weekly shopping I went to the Jams and Spreads section to pick up a jar of said Nutella and I spied a jar of Tesco value chocolate spread with hazelnuts. So I bought a 600g jar for only £1.20 and at this point I might add that I am also someone that normally would only buy brand names where food is concerned. This spread is a lot softer (some might say runnier) than Nutella but I think just as nice, not as nutty ... Read the complete review
