Advantages: delicious, cheap, useful

Disadvantages: addictive, unhealthy

When I was younger there always seemed to be a tub of chocolate spread in the kitchen cupboard. Is this because I loved it so much? No, quite the opposite! Despite my sweet tooth there was something about chocolate spread which I simply did not like.

However a short while back while i was stocking up on Marmite, my eye caught sight of the chocolate spreads a few shelves along. There and then I knew I wanted to give some a try, as it had been so long since I had done before. Perhaps my tastebuds had changed! I decided to go for the Tesco Value option, just incase I spent a fortune on Nutella and didn't actually like it! The 600g jar cost me 72p, which is not a bad price as it was, after all, fairly large!

There is nothing special about the packaging. It is a clear glass jar with a white screw top, and a blue and white label typical of the Tesco Value range. Though through it you could see the delicious appearance of the milk chocolate brown contents. I couldn't wait to try it!

When you unscrew the lid you are faced with a white foil lid. Peeling this back, which was not too easy, I was met with an amazingly strong sweet milk chocolate aroma. It smelled gorgeous, and looking in I could see it looked as gorgeous as it did from the outside too!

I took a spoon and shovelled some into my mouth. Wow! This was so creamy and soft, meltig instantly! It did have a sugary sweet flavour which coated my tastebuds with a layer of delight. I was filled with a sudden rush of warmth and happiness, it was spectacular!

This can be eaten on bread, whether in a sandwich or on toast, rather than just from a spoon! It can be used as a cake topping too, or for crackers. It is a delicious way to start the day hot on toast, or a good dessert with the cakes. Though not something for everyday! Why?

Well its not too healthy! A single tablespoon contains 90 calories, 8g sugars and 5g fat. That may not seem like a lot, but it does soon add up. If you are simply spoon feeding from the jar then you really do need willpower to stop!

This is a deliciously cheap, sweet spread and has definitely altered my opinion on chocolate spread as a whole! No need to splash out, just stick to the Value options!

It's a great choc-spread but I'll never cheat on my Nutella :-)
Great review!

That sounds great for the price, I buy Nutella for my granddaughters' but it's very expensive now.

have to try some of this, handy at that price for when my grandkids come over.
