Advantages: Perfect honey.

Disadvantages: Can't figure out why it is cheap...

This is a short one, but don't be put off by that!

*PACKAGING*

The tesco value range has had a bit of an update since the above picture, most of the range has the appropriate ingredients in picture form on the label. This has two slices of white farmhouse bread being drizzled with honey. If it wan't for the tesco value branding it would be (dare I say it) somewhat sexy... The jar lid on mine is gold but that's really splitting hairs isn't it?

It is V suitable but nor for peoples under 12 months because honey often contains endospores which make babies ill. It has 49 calories per table spoon with trace fat and salt. So if, like me, you eat it on bread with no butter it's not a highly calorific snack.

*THE HONEY*

Where do I begin? The honey is opaque and has an amber colour to it, (hence the name clear). It is also quite liquid and free flowing (so kids will call it "runny hunny"), perhaps more so than some more expensive clear honeys but this is not a negative in my opinion. It is (obviously) made by bees, and like most honey it is made using multiple batches of honey from differing regions (blended). There is foam on the top of the honey in the jar suggesting that it is unpasteurised (see wikipedia's page on honey).

The only way I can describe the smell is that it smells like honey. Seriously. It's sweet and oh so edible smelling, but it smells exactly the same as any other honey. In fact I can think of no reason why this could be different from tesco's non-value honey since honey is a "pure" product and can have no additives: it is made by bees and they don't/can't cheat. I suspect that it is simply the label and lack of print on the lid that affects the price. Taste wise, again, it's the same as any other brand. When I spread it on to soft white bread it sinks into the holes and makes the bread surface slightly hard (I can' explain that well, a bit like crystalising you get on the top of honey in a jar) as I like it. It is very runny so it spreads and pours and settles quickly, and getting a level measurement is easy. All in all, I'll probably never buy another honey again.

Great review, I tend to use this for cooking as I prefer to have the honey comb on bread

There's really no need to buy more expensive honey as the quality of this is excellent.
