Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Little on the salty side, not sure if they're vegetarian or not
I absolutely love noodles and really do adore food I can bang in the microwave and cook with ease! I admit it! I'm super lazy and I'm not a fan of standing around for hours to cook things that take me 2 minutes to eat! So when I saw these in my local Tesco store for 9p a packet I didn't expect much from them to be totally honest with you l but did think they were going to probably be the cheapest meal I've ever had lol.
The Packaging....
Oblong red and white plastic packet. On the front in red, white and blue writing I'm told they are Tesco 'Value' Curry Flavour instant Noodles and that they take 4 and 1/2 minutes to microwave or 3 minutes to boil, there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there and the weight is stated (65g) and finally there is a big photograph of the noodles looking rather yummy it has to be said lol. On the back of the packet (in black and white writing) I'm given cooking instructions and storage advice, ingredients and allergy advice is also given as is a full nutritional rundown, contact details for Tesco are given, weight (again) is stated and finally there is a bar-code on there. Not the most awful economy packet I've ever seen and it doesn't scream in your face what it is! I like that about it! lol.
Cooking Instructions....
Microwave....
Place the noodles in 200ml boiling water in a microwavable container and add the contents of the seasoning sachet and cook for 4 - 4 1/2 minutes stirring once halfway through cooking.
Hob....
Boil 200ml of water add the noodles and sachet, bring back to the boil and then simmer for for about 2 1/2 minutes over moderate heat, stirring often.
The Noodles....
I cooked mine in the microwave which was very easy to do and took me the full 4 1/2 minutes, stirring them once during the cooking. When cooked I emptied the noodles on a plate and I was met with fine glossy and golden noodles that were moist and had a few visual small pieces of carrot and chive throughout. The smell was that of curry powder and overall they looked nice and they smelt nice. No complaints so far!
Taste wise well again they're ok. Not the best quality sure, they are what they are. Thin wheaty noodles that were well cooked with curry seasoning and as I have said a little bit of carrot and chive in there as flavouring and adding a slightly crunchy texture to the soft noodles in places.
Overall....
A little bland, these could of done with less of a salty taste however for 9p a packet they really are value for money and rather tasty. I wouldn't go mad for them but I certainly wouldn't avoid them either. They are not soggy, gloopy or messy and they cook fast and well and the portion size is large (for one person!). Great for shoving with a sausage or piece of chicken if your on an economy drive, this is a way forward without suffering too much at all lol.
Very pleasant, light in curry flavour and tasty enough!
