Advantages: taste exactly like the expensive version

Disadvantages: very moorish and not veyr healthy

Custard creams have long been my Achilles heel. Even though I am now an adult, and so should have developed self control, I am utterly unable to just eat one. I therefore figured that at least if I swapped to value I'd be limiting the financial damage done by my lack of restraint.

Value custard creams come in the traditional blue and white stripey wrapping, with a coloured photo of the biscuits on it as an added bit of class/enticement to buy. The wrapper wasn't particularly easy to open, but then I do in general struggle with biscuit packet wrappings.

The biscuits inside look exactly as custard creams should: two biscuits sandwiching a pale yellow creamey looking feeling, with the biscuits embossed in the traditional pattern. Same size as 'non-value' version, roughly same feel, same look. So far, so good. So to the important bit: taste. And actually I'm not entirely sure what to write here as they tasted * exactly * like their more expensive cousins. Seriously, if I were blindfolded, I don't think I could have distinguished between them. Half a pack later, I still felt the same way and had the slightly overly-full feeling I get having eaten too many of the real thing.

As with all good things in life, they have a 'price' attached to them that is not purely financial: each gorgeous biscuit contains a whooping 2.6g of fat, roughly 4% of your daily allowance... and I can easily eat 10...

So, to move swiftly on from this sobering thought... value custard creams are, in summary, fabulous and I cannot tell the difference compared to the more expensive versions (although my husband claims he can and that they are slightly sweeter.) I would definitely recommend them, obviously in moderation...

Summary: no need to spend more to spoil yourself

I'm not that keen on Custard Creams ( any brand). The smell of them remindes me of sour milk :-/ x
