Advantages: Cheap and cheerful

Disadvantages: Bit plain, messy when dry

I have a serious addiction to biscuits, seriously! I munch my way through packets and packets a week and as someone who has been skinny as a rake for the past 5 years suddenly it's all catching up with me and landing on my hips! So I'm trying my best to avoid the things but succumbed yesterday to these in my local Tesco's when I saw them at the bargain price of 34p a packet and I have to admit to being quite partial to digestives!

The Packaging....

Larger than average plastic tube shaped packet. On the front there is a picture of the biscuits and on that in red, white and navy writing I'm told they are Tesco 'Value' Digestive Biscuits, there is a nutritional at a glance chart on there and the weight is stated (400g). Round the back of the packet I'm again told what they are, ingredients, allergy advice and storage instructions are given, along with being told they are suitable for vegetarians, a full nutritional rundown is given, again the weight is stated, the recycle symbol is displayed, the best before date and bar-code are stamped on and finally details for Tesco are given. Make no bones about it this is an economy looking packet but what did appeal to me was the size of the pack and the value for money offered (if of course they tasted nice!).

The Biscuits Themselves....

I counted 26 biscuits in my packet all lined up looking round, a light baked brown colour and with 'Sweetmeal Digestive Biscuits' engraved into the top of each one with small pin pricked holes around the outer edges of each. The under side is covered in tiny little lines which creates texture and they have a lovely, sweet, baked smell to each.

Taste wise, well they are wholemeal flavoured, not overly sweet and have a slightly malty taste to them. Deeply crunchy, hugely dippable (without breaking up easily and scumming mugs etc!) they actually are rather nice. However when dry and in your hands they do have a powdery feel and are quite messy to eat though to be fair I found them better to dunk which is my preferred method of eating any biscuit anyway lol!

I like the fact that they have a wholesome taste to them and feel the amount of sugar and salt in these is well blended to create an interesting taste however I would like them to be a bit more creamy really and a bit smaller (not much) to dip them more easily instead of having to break them to dip them and create a mess!

Not a bad biscuit, no big gripes but for me they are really plain and nothing one bit special and make me think they are like an every day biscuit rather than one I'd want to give to my guests type of thing. They're a great economical buy though!
