I do love a good egg! I enjoy eggs because they are such a versatile food, scrambled, fried, poached...all taste yummy and all go well with so many other foods. I usually buy organic free range eggs, often from corn fed chickens, but I decided to buy these value eggs after watching a recent documentary about chickens. Recently, I was at a friends house and I noticed that she had these eggs. I immediately wanted to launch into my anti battery hen lecture, when she turned round to me and said ' oh...and before you start, I hate chickens. they are nasty, cruel looking things and I do not give a toss how they are kept' ...an answer I do not ... Tesco Value Eggs..... Now there was a time I was a bit particular about what sort of eggs I would buy and when you opt for buying free range you are paying a considerable amount more than when buying eggs from caged hens. Tesco Value range is wonderful and cheap and with the eggs this is no exception. They sell 15 eggs of all different sizes packaged together in a large plastic egg box for a mere £1.49pence. This is a lot cheaper than any other eggs that are available from Tesco. We do use a lot of eggs in our house and because we go through them at such an alarming rate I found the need to switch from the free range to the caged for ... Read the complete review

Fresh eggs were an important part of my diet and being brought up in the country I was used to going up to the chicken house, opening the trap doors and collecting the eggs. Nothing like a warm fresh egg for breakfast! Once married and living in one of Scotland's New towns I had to resort to buying shop eggs or trays of eggs from a van that came round, but I had no proof whether these eggs came from happy chickens. We have gone through all sorts of scares about eggs, but although I don't eat a lot of eggs now compared to my childhood when I probably had an egg most days for breakfast, we use quite a few especially when I bake. Free range eggs might sound a ... Read the complete review

Before I start this review allow me to say just one thing. I am fully aware that these eggs are from caged hens and I know this is not ideal (nay, it's disgraceful) but I'm not about to defend my purchasing habits and would ask you nicely to keep the 'let them eat cake' type comments to a minimum as in this uncertain economic climate unfortunately cost will outweigh ethics for many people. My personal reason for buying these eggs as opposed to the free range ones I usually buy is the fact that I needed forty of the little protein rich ovals and with the price of eggs rising on an almost weekly basis this was the way I decided to do it! There are two main ... Read the complete review

There are effectively 3 types of eggs you can buy in UK. Eggs from caged chicken, from free range chicken and eggs you buy fresh from the farmer. Although the 3rd type is meant to be the same as the second, for those who have tried to have the yolk raw from a frshly laid egg, the taste is very different! I like to have the yolk buttered up with sugar, and this is only possible with eggs from the farmer, I used to have this when I lived in Spain and we went for vacation in a farm in Mallorca. In UK, I have tried a couple of times the free range eggs from tesco, but I must admit that they are not the same as those you get in the ... Read the complete review
