Advantages: Great price, Great taste!
Disadvantages: Negative image
Undoubtedly it was the price that first drew our attention to this loaf, and if you can find it, conveniently nestled in at the bottom of the shelf almost hidden from view, I highly recommend you try it.
Coming in at an astonishingly cheap 18 pence (at the time of writing), there is an immediate "buy me" appeal of this malt loaf. When you further consider that this malt loaf is less than half the price of the other well known brand, the value shines even more, and the descision becomes a no brainer.
Other than the dissapointing "Tesco Value" brand image, and unattractive packaging, there is nothing negative about this product at all (an when you think about it, the package is what goes in the bin anyway). As the label indicates it is also suitable for vegetarians and freezable.
Once out the packet, there is no cheap about it. It simply smells deliciously malty, and looks like a delicate fruit loaf (although admittedly looking less malty and mature than the expensive competitor, but does appearance matter that much).
When it comes to the taste test there is certainly no or only marginal difference in taste, and served up with butter its absolutely delicious. I am sure most people if blind tested this product would not be able to tell apart from its competitors.
I just wish it would come as a pre-sliced too. This is definately one to add to the shopping list.
Summary: Great Value, Highly recommended!
