Advantages: Fantastic price, easy to cook, tastes pretty nice, very simple.
Disadvantages: A little high in fat.
I have recently been enjoying a variety of lunchtime dishes and I am always looking for something new that is also a good price and I spotted these pasta & sauce packets on the shelf at Tesco and decided that at just 28p for a 110g sachet I would give this a try.
The pasta & sauce is provided in a fairly basic packet and it is red & white with the Tesco Value logo and a picture of the cooked pasta as well as ingredients, nutritional information & cooking instructions.
This is very simple to make just tear open the packet, pour the pasta in to a saucepan, add some water & a few small knobs of butter and then cook this for around 10-15 minutes (depending on how well you like it to be done!). I cooked mine for around 13 minutes and this helped the sauce to reduce down enough to ensure that I still had some for dipping my french stick in to but not too much that the pasta was drowning in it as I prefer the pasta more than anything.
When I first opened the packet I could initially smell onion but once cooking I could smell both tomatoes & onion and the smell was very nice when cooking and it really got my mouth watering. The pasta was lovely & soft once cooked and had expanded a fair bit in size and the sauce was a vivid red with flecks of parsley in it (dried parsley) and actually tasted quite nice. There are 265 calories and 7g of fat per packet so not too bad really for a lunch (although the fat is a little high). I did enjoy this but found that I couldn't finish the entire packet as I had it with a part baked baguette and had probably over estimated just how hungry I was.
This was a perfectly acceptable packet of pasta for my lunch and the price was extremely reasonable compared to other items on the shelf. I will be purchasing this again but it's not something that I'd serve to guests or my other half for part of his tea and I would probably add some grated cheese to it next time to make it have a little more flavour to it. I am rating this 4/5 as for the price it's very nice but it's just not quite as nice as I'd have liked.
Summary: A great pasta & sauce snack at a fantastic price.
