Advantages: cheap, quick and easy to prepare, low in kcal and fat

I remember buying a jar of this once quite a few years ago and making a pasta bake out of it. The person with whom I ate the said meal complimented me on its tastiness then once they had seen the Tesco Value jar, turned their nose up and slated the meal! Label snob! Now I do not have to deal with label snobbery anymore, today I decided to give it another bash.

Tesco Value Pasta Sauce is a tomato based pasta sauce with mixed herbs. It comes in a clear glass jar with 440g of content at a price of 36p.

I cooked up minced beef, mushrooms, onions and green peppers and then added a jar of this sauce for the last 5 minutes, as per the instructions.

The sauce smells delicious, very distinctively of tomatoes and herbs (wonder why) and looks equally appetising, a rich red in colour with loads of flecks of herbs visibly present.

When cooking, because of the amount of mince I was cooking I also added a tin of chopped tomatoes to bulk out the dish.

The results were near perfection, even if I do say so myself! The Pasta Sauce really shone through even amongst the chopped toms, a very delicious flavour.

The pasta sauce itself contains just 22 kcal per 100g, with 110g being a recommended serving, and I think this would be an adequate serving with some pasta. There is also less than 1g of fat per serving.

This makes for a a very quick and easy meal, which is great on calories and taste. I am won over and doubt I would bother with the likes of Homepride for a basic pasta sauce again.

Summary: This is an obvious choice for me now - no going back!
