There really is no discernable reason to buy the more expensive branded products as there literally is no difference to these. Nothing is added, and it's so simple that any additions would probably detract from the taste. The porridge itself doesn't taste of much, but has an oaty undertone which can easily be complimented with a simple addition for flavour. I've personally used bananas and fresh berries to give it a bit of ...more

Premium Review Tesco Value Porridge Oats: Value Oats Or Dust? (301 words)

Now that we are coming up to winter, it will be time for porridge again in the mornings and possibly at night too, as that helps settle the stomach and prepare you for an good nights sleep. I have bought these before and been pretty impressed with them. I remember standing in Tesco trying to decide whether to plump for the Scott's oats or the value ones. There was quite a difference in price, but would the value oats be like eating dust or would they actually have a good consistency to them? I was impressed! The oats cost about sixty pence and that is for a kg, which is a very generous sized bag. You can tell you get a lot, because the weight of the shopping ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Porridge - a cheap breakfast that keeps you full for hours (478 words)

When it comes to a warming, satisfying and inexpensive breakfast for winter, you'd really have to go a very long way to beat porridge. Not only is it filling, it takes the edge of the coldest winter morning and can be jazzed up any number of different ways . It also (apparently) has a low GI (Glycaemic Index) which means it should keep you fuller for longer - and I have to say, I find a big bowl of this can easily keep me full right up until dinnertime . There isn't much point with porridge paying more for a brand - essentially, they are all pretty much the same thing, apart from the more expensive brands tend to perhaps look a little nicer, or have a little ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Porridge Oats: Eek out the hard bits and have yourself a nice bowl of porri ... (518 words)

When you buy a product such as Quaker's Oats, making porridge has that hassle free kind of feel to it. The oats are soft (but not overly so) and cooking the porridge the traditional way, in a saucepan with some milk, makes it easy, and tastes good. So, with them coming it at around £1.50 for 1kg of them, what's to stop Tesco Value Porridge Oats coming in at nearly a third of the price and usurping a porridge giant such as Quaker? Well, to start off with, the packaging suffers a little. This is quite standard with Tesco Value products, as you often get some of the reduced cost because of minimal packaging. What this does here is give you the oats in just a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Get your oats fix here. (422 words)

All porridge oats taste exactly the same because they are all the same product. Whether or not you buy Finest, Value, Quakers, whatever. They all taste identical. This is my view and I am therefore sticking to it!! You can but those Oats so Simple for about £2 for 8 servings just cos they are in a sachet, waste of money, measure half a cup of oats and there you go probably cost you about 2p just to do that. Porridge is one of the finest breakfasts you can have in the mornings or a snack anytime really, it's full of goodness what keeps you fuller for longer and a big bowl of this will ensure you keeo the mid morning 'brunchies' away ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Porridge Oats: Oatylicious! (331 words)

Info ----- Porridge is just one of those things that always tastes very similar no matter what brand that you choose to buy. Whether you decide upon this basic stuff or the high quality quaker or scotts produce, it's always there or there abouts. These oats are just 58p for 1kg, which, when you compare them to that of quaker, they are about £1 cheaper than the major rival. This is an amazing saving, as it obviously means that there is 3 weeks produce in your bag rather than the one you usually get with the other stuff. The packaging can be a little irritating. It comes in a massive bag, which i understand is to save money, but ...  Read the complete review
