Advantages: The cost, the taste, no additives
Disadvantages: Small bags - but just eat two!
As we all try to reduce our costs with the current economic climate Tesco Value items are no doubt becoming more appealing to many! Whilst I have never been a snob where value is concerned I have only started using items from the Tesco Value range in the last six months or so.
When visiting my sister and her partner last weekend they offered me a bag of Tesco Value Ready Salted crisps and I must admit I expected them to be well below par. I don't know why as the value Tortilla Chips and brilliant but there is just something about crisps that I always think that the brand named ones are best.
I was actually so impressed with them that I have now bought a pack of 12 packets for our consumption at home!
The Price
A pack containing 12 packets of crisps cost me just 47p so that's about 4p per bag. I grant you each bag only contains 18g of crisps but even so 4p has to be a bargain.
The Packaging
The large outer bag is very plain as with all the Tesco Value items. It just has the basic information as to the contents, the red and blue Tesco Value logo and a picture of bowls of golden crisps. There is also the information that the crisps contain no added flavours, colours or MSG. The crisps contain only potatoes, vegetable oil and salt.
The nutritional value per bag expressed as a percentage of the adult recommended daily allowance appears at the bottom right hand corner of the bag.
Each smaller individual crisp bag is plain white again with just the basic information as shown on the outer bag but without the picture of the crisps.
The Appearance
When I opened a bag of these crisps the first thing that I noticed was that there weren't very many of them! The somewhat larger bags of Walkers crisps that I usually buy contain 25g of crisps but they do work out at about 14p per bag.
The crisps themselves were golden and looked as good as any other standard crisps that I have tried and they certainly smelled just as good.
The Taste
Well the good news is that they actually taste great! They are crispy and crunchy and taste as good as any of the branded crisps. They were just salty enough to be tasty without being overly salty which is another advantage as far as I am concerned. I do love the taste of salt but am constantly trying to cut down to improve my health.
The Nutrition
The nutritional values per pack containing 18g of crisps are as follows:
Calories 95
Protein 1.2g
Carbohydrate 9g
Of which sugars - trace
Fat 6g
Of which saturates 0.7g
Fibre 0.6g
Salt 0.3g
In Conclusion
Well these crisps were certainly an eye opener to me. They were much nicer than I expected them to be even though the bags don't contain many crisps! I suppose you could always eat a couple of bags - it would still only cost you 8p after all!
So I will finish by saying - yet another winner from Tesco Value!
Summary: Again a winner from Tesco Value!
