... checked there is no pull top so a tin opener would be needed, but thats pretty easy to do. Upon opening the tin, I find the beans to look quite purple, resmbling the shape of a kidney, and be surrounding by a purple thickish liquid. I would recommend that you rinse the beans to get rid of this liquid. The kidney beans are very good for your health, having a high fibre content, and they also contain iron, so an intake of these would be beneficial if you have anaemia. They are low fat but give high energy, great! The ...more

Premium Review Tesco Value Red Kidney Beans: Splodge them into a Stew (613 words)

This is another basic staple of your cupboard. Contents and nutritional information ---------------------------------------------- Red Kidney Beans, Water, Firming Agent (Calcium Chloride). In a single serving of these beans you will get 8.3g of protein, 21.4g of carbohydrate, 4.3g sugars (this is a natural sugar found in the bean) and 7.4g of fibre. It is interesting to note that the protein content is higher than the fibre (what beans are mostly associated with). Because I am a vegan, so many people ask me, "What do you eat for protein?" A closer look at beans show that protein is really not a ...  Read the complete review

Where ever you look these days we're being told to drink more water or eat 5 a day fruit and vegetables, and I have to admit I sometimes find it quite hard to do this. Red Kidney beans help as half a can is equal to 1 of the 5 a day and if you add more vegetables to a chilli dish with the beans you can make it up to perhaps 3 out of the 5 a day! I have been experimenting trying some of the Tesco value things and as the tomatoes are certainly quite tasty I decided to try the Red Kidney beans which are in water. The can has the usual Tesco logo and there is a picture of the kidney beans, plump and red. On the back of the can is all the information ...  Read the complete review

What a great bargain these are! They cost a mere 19p on average and in my experience the taste is no different to any other tinned kidney bean. One of the obvious differences is the packaging, which is the typical tesco value labelling. I personally don't mind what the packaging looks like in regards to tinned items. If its half the price then why not? Now these items come in the tesco value tin, and the last time I checked there is no pull top so a tin opener would be needed, but thats pretty easy to do. Premium Review A Bean to add Bulk (246 words)

Tesco Value Red Kidney Beans I'm very much a fan of kidney beans, they pick up the flavour of whatever you put with them, they have a fabulous soft but slightly grainy texture, and they add a bit of colour to dishes as well. Oh, and if you're in need of additional fibre, these are an excellent source for that too. This particular brand is good and cheap too which is a real bonus, and to be honest because of the nature of the kidney bean and the fact that it picks a lot of it's flavour up from whatever it's put with the cheaper the better in my opinion. This can is a 400g can which when drained comes to about 240g. I find that you do need to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Red Kidney Beans: I'm not kidding when I say that these are great value! (250 words)

Every now and again I take to the kitchen and make a lovely Chilli Con Carne. It's simple and relatively quick to make and it goes down well with the boys! I begrudge paying over the odds for ingredients that you can't really taste because they are thrown into the mixture and these kidney beans are one of them. On opening the tin you are met with lots of kidney beans and they are sat in water which has turned a little red from the beans. The beans are a good size and are red in colour. On there own these beans taste very bland but when you add them a dish they not only add a source of protein to whatever you are making but they also end up tasting ...  Read the complete review
