Advantages: very cheap, picks up the flavour of what you cook it with, tastes good.

Tesco Value Red Kidney Beans
I'm very much a fan of kidney beans, they pick up the flavour of whatever you put with them, they have a fabulous soft but slightly grainy texture, and they add a bit of colour to dishes as well. Oh, and if you're in need of additional fibre, these are an excellent source for that too.

This particular brand is good and cheap too which is a real bonus, and to be honest because of the nature of the kidney bean and the fact that it picks a lot of it's flavour up from whatever it's put with the cheaper the better in my opinion.

This can is a 400g can which when drained comes to about 240g. I find that you do need to give these a rinse under the tap before adding them to a dish as the liquid that they sit in (water) does pick up some starch from the beans which means it's quite thick and gloopy. The rinsing also gets rid of any little bits of bean skin etc. that are floating in there.

These beans are maybe a little smaller than some more expensive brands, and possibly they've not been rinsed quite as well, as you do get little bits of skin etc. floating in there sometimes, and the occasional bean that's broken up, but they are very good value for money at just 25p for a tin.

Summary: An excellent cheap filler bean for dishes, well worth buying.
