Advantages: Healthy, cheap, versatile
Disadvantages: None
What a great bargain these are! They cost a mere 19p on average and in my experience the taste is no different to any other tinned kidney bean.
One of the obvious differences is the packaging, which is the typical tesco value labelling. I personally don't mind what the packaging looks like in regards to tinned items. If its half the price then why not?
Now these items come in the tesco value tin, and the last time I checked there is no pull top so a tin opener would be needed, but thats pretty easy to do.
Upon opening the tin, I find the beans to look quite purple, resmbling the shape of a kidney, and be surrounding by a purple thickish liquid. I would recommend that you rinse the beans to get rid of this liquid.
The kidney beans are very good for your health, having a high fibre content, and they also contain iron, so an intake of these would be beneficial if you have anaemia. They are low fat but give high energy, great!
The tins tend to last quite a while in the cupboard, so its handy to always have some in.
There are numerous options for using the kidney beans, I mainly used to use them just for chilli, however I have since found that you can use them in other cuisines such as carribbean and the traditional rice and peas is actually made using kidney beans. The beans are very versatile as they take on the flavour of what you put them with, so you can choose to flavour them as you wish.
Overall they are a great product!
Summary: A great value tin!
