Advantages: Taste nice and are less expensive than the brand names.
Disadvantages: A little hard of you are not dunking!
I am the kind of girl who knows what I like and I like to stick to what I know but with money how it is for everyone these days I have started to be tempted into the odd bargain and these Tesco value rich tea biscuits appeared to be a very good bargain.
A 300g packet for only 26p had to make good sense when you consider that for a packet of McVities rich teas I would have had to lay out more than double that. I was unsure of what to expect but nothing ventured nothing gained, so I popped them in the trolley and hoped for the best.
The same evening as I bought them they were to be put to the test when I decided that a cup of tea and some rich teas to dunk would be just the thing. My other half being the kind soul that he is made me a cuppa then handed me the biscuits at the same time as calling me a cheap skate, I may be a cheap skate but I am glad I tried them because they are actually very nice.
They are a bit harder that the McVities rich tea but as I was going to be dunking them this mattered little and when dunked apart from being slightly smaller than the McVities ones there was little to tell them apart. I like the fact that they are a bit smaller too because I often found that a Mcvities rich tea would be too big to dunk in some mugs without breaking first.
Each biscuit contains 36 calories, 1.6g of sugar and 1.2g of fat, I am unsure how this compares with the McVities offerings but I am sure they are very similar and everyone knows that all biscuits are going to be reasonably fattening and not great for your teeth so this info is probably of little interest.
They look and taste like any other rich tea if a little smaller, they are nice and sweet without being sickly and when dunked are of a decent consistency so they do not break up and flop in the tea unless left in too long. A great cheaper alternative to McVities in my opinion and the first choice rich tea for me from now on!
Thanks for reading.
