... wasted designing the products tin. It was a bright red colour throughout and that's really what grabbed my attention and immediately told me without reading the label that it was Sardines in Tomato Sauce. On the front other than that you can see a fishing vessel presumably what these get caught on. It also tells you that this product is high in Omega 3 which according to experts is good for us. While on the bottom of the tin you have more information such as: Allergic advice, the ingredients of the tin, all the nutri...more

==Background:== I have always found Sardines to be an unusually good lunch. I think it stems back from my childhood when I wondered how something so simple and easy to prepare could be good. ==Sardines:== There are three different types you can usually choose from: Sardines in oil, brine or tomato source. The big advantage with purchasing Tesco own label Sardines in Tomato source is they are less than half price of the other better known branded ones. Currently I can but these for 34p for 120g tin. ==The product:== Ever since I can remember Sardines have been told in Rectangular tins about 6" long. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sounds Fishy To Me (566 words)

Sardines are an oily fish which are related to the Herring family, as we all know oily fish are essentially very good for us being rich in Omega 3 fatty acids which can help maintain a healthy heart. Sardines are a good source of Vitamin D, Protein, Calcium and Vitamin B12, but they are also high in cholesterol. Sainsbury`s sardines in tomato sauce at 42p a tin or Tesco Value sardines at 17p a tin? I know which one I would rather try first. Sardines come in oil, brine or tomato sauce, given the choice I would rather have them in oil. The oil seems to give them extra moisture. Sardines have often been viewed as a poor mans meal, but maybe ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Sardines in Tomato Sauce: Fishy Fantastic: Super Sardines =D (292 words)

This makes for an incredibly cheap but healthy meal. You can do all sorts of things with them from eating them out of the tin, to piling them in a sandwich or bulking up a cooked meal - sardine bake? Maybe not. I don't think you can get something quite so good for just 17p... 120g of pure fishy goodness for just 17p!! Sardines are already relatively cheap food, but the value edition takes them even further. The only notable difference between the value and normal range is that you get 65% sardines in a pack compared to 70% (the rest is tomato puree and water etc). The sauce may be very slightly different, but not notably, and sardines are still ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review You shall have a fishy, on a little dishy (259 words)

Sardines are one of the few ways I get my dose of fish oils, which at the moment are supposed to be good for you (it might be different next week, since they're always changing their minds about what's good or bad). I find on average there are 3 large sardines in the tin, or four smaller sardines. I prefer the 3 because that's one for each slice of toast and one for the cat. The Tesco Value Sardines are one of those items where I think 'a fish is a fish, what difference can it make', and in my opinion its absolutely true, the only difference in the fish themselves is size. The size of the fish in value products tends to vary, whereas branded names ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Sardines in Tomato Sauce: Value sardines - cheap but not terrible (238 words)

I think I'm what you might call a lapsed vegetarian...I've been veggie for 12 years, but about 2 years ago I started eating fish again. Strictly speaking I am no longer a vegetarian, but I still call myself that. One thing I got into after I started eating fish was sardines, and during one of my cost cutting drives last year I tried Tesco Value Sardines. I had tried some other sardines, namely Tesco and Morrisons own brand, before I tried these. I have to admit I was a little disappointed. I thought the sauce was nice and thick, and the sardines were also quite large, but I found that the sardines were a little more stringy than other ones I had tried. I'm ...  Read the complete review
