It is not often that I cook sausages for the simple fact that I hate cooking them! If we ever treat ourselves to a fry up we nearly always go to the shop up the road from us rather than cooking it ourselves as it is cheap enough and always tastes good, however, a couple of weeks ago I had a couple of friends over and decided I would cook up a breakfast for the following morning and popped along to my nearest Tesco Express store as it is really handy. I picked up myself a packet of the Tesco Value sausages for a couple of reasons, one being that they were the cheapest option and the other was that there really was little other choice and as I have had many ... Ok i'm a real tightwad, I saw a pack of 8 sausages for 48p and thought they'd be worth checking out purely due to the price. How do they look: The pack is cheap plastic with the inimitable Tesco Value logo, it looks cheap and tacky alongside some of the posher sausages on the shelf. Cost: 48p for 8 sausages, this makes them 6p each so they are damned good value....or are they? Cooking: place them in a pan, braise them slowly and cook them through for 20 minutes, generally this cooks a sausage perfectly, in this case your left with a big pile of fat and some collapsed sausage meat, i've tried baking them too to see if the problem was ... I was browsing the sausages in Tesco the other day when I spotted these Tesco Value 8 sausages. I hadn't considered them before, I don't think I had even noticed them. Upon noticing they were just 48p I grabbed a pack figuring that at that bargain price they would be worth a try. These sausages are a considerable amount cheaper than any other sausages available. At £1.99, my usual Tesco Butchers Choice ones are around £1.50 more. The Richmond ones cost £1.97 and the Walls ones cost £2.13. So these are by far the cheapest sausages you can buy. The packaging is nothing to write home about. They come in the usual 'Tesco Value' style, which is quite ... Read the complete review

I love to make a Sunday roast or simple sausage and mash and because I am currently unemployed I am on a tight budget so I thought at 48p that this are the ideal way to still eat something I enjoy without breaking the budget. The packaging is very basic and cannot be recycled, it is quite a stiff plastic wrapping and I needed to use scissors to cut through it as both ends were very well sealed. Once opened I was met with 8 sausages which are a light pink colour, almost a little grey, and these are all pretty similar in size. I actually used my sausages without the skins on them and mixed with sage & onion stuffing as an accompaniment to my ... Read the complete review

I heard on a radio cookery programme recently that the cheapest possible sausages are best for barbecuing as the high fat content helps ensure the cook all the way through and also stokes the flames below to give adequate cooking temperatures to penetrate the middle of the sausage. I am useless at cooking sausages on the barbecue and frankly they scare me as I find it so hard to cook the sausage through before it burns on the outside. So in Tesco I decided to pick up a packet of their 48p Value Sausages and see how they turned out at that weekend's barbecue lunch. Well, I'm sure you can guess what I'm going to say. Yes, they did seem to cook through much ... Read the complete review
