Added mix to the bowl one egg and 50 mls of water mixed it all together then added the other 25ml of water. divided in to bun case and was very surprised it filled 10 cases. In the oven it went and 15 mins later out came 10 very nice looking buns. left them to cool and we all had one and i have to say what a shock.. These rose ...more

Premium Review Tesco Value Sponge Mix: It's value Kate making cakes! (428 words)

I love to cook and I have a limited budget recently so when I spotted a 227g cake mix for just 23p in my local Tesco store I decided that I would give it a try and if it was rubbish that I wouldn't bother again. The sponge mix is very basic to look at and doesn't jump out to me from the baking shelf with its white plastic packaging with the Tesco value logo adorned on it. There are cooking instructions, ingredients & nutritional information on the back. To make the mix simple pour it in to a mixing bowl and then add one egg and 50ml of water, mix for a minute & add another 25ml of water. When the sponge mix is originally emptied out it ...  Read the complete review

MY four year old drives me crazy ... if I ever ask her what she'd like to do she wants to bake. All she wants to bake is fairy cakes ... We usually go for the usual 4oz of flour, sugar, butter and an egg to make 12 small cakes. It doesnt sound like much but the ingrdients add up and we seem to get through butter in this household like no-ones business. So about once a week since little one was about two and a half I get out this tried and tested little miracle packet .. Tesco Value Sponge Mix. Dont let the dull 'value' packaging put you off. This 227g packet of dry mixture makes the same 12 cakes and costs just ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Sponge Mix: Cakey goodness? (379 words)

My friend and I had decided we were wanting to bake a cake so we set off to Tesco to see what they had available. When we came across the tesco value sponge mix, we weren't too sure what to expect. But we thought we had nothing to lose so we bought it, ready to give it a try! Packaging: The sponge mix comes in a basic white bag with the traditional tesco value logo on it. This basic packaging always suggests a low price, however not always a low quality product. There is a simple image of a cake on the front, but we weren't sure if it was able to make something like that! Making: The cake mix itself is a very pasty, clumpy mix. It ...  Read the complete review

When i was told both my boys had a milk and soya allergy i had to buy cake and buns that were milk and soya free. I found some but £2.50 for 5 slices of bakewell cake, I thought it was getting to much and needed to find a cheaper way to let the boys have some cake. While walking round tescos looking at all the "ready made mixes" and 99% of them contained milk or soya, i then came across the Tesco Value Spone mix and i thought 23p it must be bad, but i thought its only 23p why not. Got home and rather excited over a 23p pack of cake mix i got out a bowl and one egg and 75ml of water. I decided I would make buns instead of the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Sponge Mix: It got me out of a mix? (558 words)

As well as a review, this is also a huge thankyou to dooyoo and its reviewers. Today I actually bought this after reading previous reviews on here. As my darling wife was in work and I had the 3 children to look after I decided to pop down to Tesco for a few bits for tea. Whilst I was there I decided to work along the cake isle. Now normally this is a magnet for the children to buy a cake mix of some kind. Quite often it is a fairy cake mix with some cartoon character transfers to decorate on the top, with icing sugar. Today I spotted the sponge mix which I had read about on here. It was as already reported only 23p and I decided to get a few packs. I had eggs ...  Read the complete review
