... boys. They sit in water that is slightly salted which is a little annoying as I don't like salty things and I don't really like the boys have too many salty things. I don't think that you can taste the salt on the kernals though so I don't think theres a lot of salt in the water. The kernals have a soft middle and a shiny outer which pops as you bite into it. They give off a sweet taste that isn't as good as coming straight off the cob but it's more than acceptable. The main different between these and the Asda o...more

Premium Review Tesco Value Sweetcorn: Good Value (284 words)

I put sweetcorn in loads of recipes and even though I buy Green Giant for when I'm having it cold on a salad or a sandwich, I buy this Tesco Value Sweetcorn for throwing into a stew or bolognese. It's only 34p for a tin that weighs 325g and even though there's more water in it that usual it still works out very cheap compared to Green Giant. I wouldn't eat it cold straight from the tin like I do with Green Giant because it's not good enough quality but when you're cooking it you can't tell that it's so cheap. There are a lot of broken and squished kernals in the tin so you end up throwing quite a few away with the water but that's better than ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not the best of the value products (212 words)

I buy a lot of value products and I often think that they are just as good as the more expensive options, however, in the case of Tesco Value sweetcorn, this product is not as good. This sweetcorn is very cheap in comparison to say Green Giant Sweetcorn but it just is not as nice. The cornels are very small and quite crunchy which isn't unpleaseant but I like them to be soft and juicey. You also often get the odd hard one in there which isn't very nice. There is too much water in the tin and some of the cornels break up and have to be tipped away with the water. The water/juice isn't that tasty which can only mean that the corn hasn't got a lot of ...  Read the complete review

Canned goods is another area that I have been trying to save money recently whilst still keeping the cupboards nice and stocked. This product is 325g in weight and 260g in drained weight. The can is very basic and does not have a ring pull but is easily opened with a can opener. It has a paper label with the basic Value logo on it and the familiar red, white & blue colouring which makes this item easily distinguishable on the supermarket shelves. The can costs 34p and this is a fantastic price for such a cheap, versatile product although not the cheapest from the big 4 supermarkets. Once the can is opened the sweetcorn is very yellow in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A sweet price (245 words)

The Tesco Value Sweetcorn comes in a slight more aesthetically pleasing packaging than it used to come in. This is one of the cheapest alternatives to the more expensive premium brands which can be pricey especially if there are not any special offers on. Immediately the can states that there is 50% less salt which is considerably less than other brands. Personally I enjoy eating it purely because of it is sweet, however some might not like this taste if they are used to other brands which do have more salt in them. On one occasion I have actually purchased a premium can of sweetcorn and did not find a huge different in taste, but I definitely ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tesco Value Sweetcorn: Another convincing Tesco Value product (312 words)

Ah, this sweet student time when cheap tinned food is your best friend. It's now just a few more months till I start University again and I already know what my favourite food brand is going to be - the Tesco Value range! The tinned Sweetcorn in sugared salt water is definitely a great Value product; there's no way to distinguish it from a more expensive brand and with 40p for a 325g tin it is a real bargain. The sweetcorn pieces come in sugar and salt water mix and Tesco advertises it as a new recipe with 50% less salt. The whole can (drained) still contains 0.9g of salt but that's ok as you don't need the add additional salt when preparing the ...  Read the complete review
