Advantages: good taste, very cheap
Disadvantages: none
Ah, this sweet student time when cheap tinned food is your best friend. It's now just a few more months till I start University again and I already know what my favourite food brand is going to be - the Tesco Value range!
The tinned Sweetcorn in sugared salt water is definitely a great Value product; there's no way to distinguish it from a more expensive brand and with 40p for a 325g tin it is a real bargain.
The sweetcorn pieces come in sugar and salt water mix and Tesco advertises it as a new recipe with 50% less salt. The whole can (drained) still contains 0.9g of salt but that's ok as you don't need the add additional salt when preparing the sweetcorn.
Sweetcorn is a great addition to a healthy and balanced diet and the 260g (drained weight) contain only 315kcal.
There's no lid-opener on the tin which can be quite annoying when you first have to look for ages to find your tin-opener.
When opened you can see the small, yellow (great colour, very brightly yellow that gives the pieces a very fresh appearance) pieces in the milky water, there's not much water at all and the drained weight is 260g. The pieces seem to be of a good quality, I never had any discoloured or odd ones in the tins.
The corns are taste fresh and not too strongly of salt, they are usually quite crunchy and not soggy and soft as you sometimes have it with other brands.
For only 40 pence a can they are great to use in fresh salads, chili con carne or as a healthy snack on their own with a bit of sweet chili sauce.
The Tesco Value Sweetcorn is a highly recommendable product and deserves 09 out of 10 stars!
