After a plea from my eldest for spaghetti bolognaise for his tea I gave in a soon found I was out of tinned tomatoes so had to go and buy some. As I am trying to stick to my budget I decided to give the Tesco Value ones a try and I can honestly say I am pleased I did as no one in my house even noticed a difference in taste and I saved myself a good few pennies which I was able to spend on chocolate! ~~THE TIN~~ The tinned tomatoes come in a bog standard metal tin which has a white label. At the top is the standard value range logo in blue and across the middle is a red banner which has the product name in and below this is a picture of the tomatoes. ... Read the complete review

Well occasionally i do shop in Tescos for the odd item that i find cheaper in their store, i do like Tescos but now that i have moved it is nearer for me to shop in Sainsburys. I'm showing my age now but when I was a student I remember paying 8p per tin for plum tomatoes & am constantly amazed at how expensive they can be these days - I refuse to pay over 70p for a can of 400g! Luckily Tesco sell them around 34p so when I see them at this price I tend to stock up as we use a lot in our family. I like them drained & cooked as part of a weekend cooked breakfast or just heated up on their own on toast for a snack. I mainly use them though for making pasta dishes, mixed with tomato puree for pizza bases or add a tin to soups, stews, casseroles, curries etc. I used to buy more expensive tomatoes & always bought ... The tinned Tesco Value plum tomatoes is something you can always find in my cupboard - not only great for pasta dishes but also a healthy option when we cook a traditional English breakfast. --------------- Packing 400g is a good size for a tin of tomatoes - just enough for pasta sauce or some cooked tomatoes for breakfast/as a healthy snack. The tin doesn't have a lid opener so you have to have your normal tin opener at hand. I know that it is pure laziness but I prefer the ones that have an opener on the top of the tin. The label is the well-known Tesco Value blue/red and white design with all the relevant information on the ... Read the complete review

I find that Tesco Value products are a bit hit and miss. The vast majority of their products are good value, in my opinion, especially things such as their Plum Tomatoes. However, it really does depend what you're intending to use them for. I usually buy their Chopped Tomatoes for making a Spag Bol, for some tomatoes to add in, but every now and then I like having these Plum Tomatoes instead. They give off a stronger tomato flavour as well as being more noticeable. If you get them for this purpose, or indeed for the purpose of using them as an ingredient in any recipe as opposed to on their own, then they're a good product. If, however, you're ...
