Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: /
I have been looking more and more of ways to save a few pounds on the shopping so thought I'd give Tesco value chopped tomatoes a try.
I was previously buying Napolina or Tesco Italian chopped tomatoes both priced around 60p per 400g can, wheras the Tesco value cans are 26p per 400g can.
Ingredients
Tomato (60%), Tomato Juice, Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid).
This compares competitively with the more expensive cans as they have 65% tomatoes contained in each can.
The can has the familiar no frills look of Tesco value products, with a white border at the top, showing the Tesco value logo, there is an image of chopped tomatoes on the rest of the can with the nutrional information also illustrated in a bar neer the bottom.
We cook lots of recipes that use tinned tomatoes, such as bolgnese, chilli con carne, curry, so do tend to use a few cans.
Since I changed to using the cheaper product I haven't noticed a
decrease in the taste of any of the meals I cook. The tomatoes don't appear to be any more acidic than the previous cans used. There is no added salt or sugar either.
I will be continuing to purchase these Tesco value chopped tomatoes as they are half the price of the regular Tesco cans and taste just as good in my recipes!
Summary: Reccommended value product, helps you save a few pence

- 02/11/08 I found these contained rather a lot of skin last time I bought them, I tried the new range of cheap brands that Tesco have started selling. These toms are 1p more than the value and contained no skin at all. |
