Advantages: Cheap, recyclable can, lots of tomatoes.
Disadvantages: The sauce is watery, no ring pull on the can.
I use chopped tomatoes quite often in cooking and like most people at the moment I am trying to keep shopping costs to a minimum.
A 400g tin is approximately 20p in Tesco at present (can go up unannounced quite drastically!), a 400g tin has 68 calories, 11.2g sugar (high for what it is) and 0.4g of fat. So at least this is low in fat but what with it being cheap it is high in sugar (to give it an extra tang!).
This tin does not have a ring pull so you'll need to use a conventional can-opener for this one (anything to keep costs down!).
The tomatoes come already chopped so you can just open a can and throw them in with whatever it is you are cooking.
These are suitable for use in the oven, on the hob or in the slow cooker.
The tomatoes are great for using in pasta sauces or in the slow cooker to make a lovely spaghetti bolognese or even in a slow-cooked stew (makes cheap cuts of meat taste beautiful!).
The tomatoes are pretty high quality in my opinion and whilst I have noticed the odd occasional slightly green tomato or stem remaining these are fantastic for the price you pay! You get lots of tomatoes in the can and whilst the sauce is a little watery a dash of flour will soon sort this out.
Because these tomatoes are so cheap it definitely works out cheaper to make your own home made bolognese sauce (very easy to do!).
I would recommend this product, the price is fantastic, the product tastes nice and the can is recyclable.
Delicious on toast or as a staple part of a weekend morning fry-up!
Summary: A great staple to most home-made slow-cooker meals!
