Advantages: good for adding to make a meal, cheap

Disadvantages: ?

I have been trying to use up my entire emergency / just in case, store in my pantry as we are having a new kitchen extension built. I have no room to store excess food till it is built.
I discovered a tin or two of Tesco value tomatoes, I have some beef and was going to make a large beef casserole to last me 2 or 3 days that way I shall probably curry it tomorrow .I have added tomatoes to the casserole I find these value tomatoes excellent to add to a casserole makes it tasty.

Tinned Tomatoes are excellent for dieters contain 0.1 g just a trace per 100g 2.9g of carbohydrates of which 2.7 are sugars only 17kcal per 100g.

Tesco value tomatoes contain tomatoes 60% tomato juice and citric acid
These tomatoes can be stored in the fridge for 2 days after opening if in a non-metallic container, useful if you are on your own and only use half a tin

I have other tinned tomatoes in the past and they are not much better than Tesco’s value particularly when you are adding them to a casserole or making a pasta sauce value whole tomatoes cost 2ip for 400g or 19p for the chopped tin same weight. IO have added a chopped tin of tomatoes to my casserole I don’t know why Was so extravagant the whole ones would have been fine after all how much energy and expertise does it take to chop a tomato?

These tomatoes can be used in many ways, heated as they are as a vegetable no I do not like them this way can be used to make a tomato topping for a pizza base or to make a simple tomato pasta or added to mince spaghetti bolognaise.

If you are just starting uni these can make a very cheap filling nutritious meal learn how to make a couple of cheap quick meals before you leave home. Then make a huge pot of pasta (value spaghetti is really cheap) in tomato sauce and share with the others in your hall/ flat breaks the ice makes friends you can all share cooking eating washing up makes uni more fun than a meal for 1 and cheaper th

an the canteen.

Excellent for making nutritious family meals too in fact good for all to use

Here is what I’ve cooked for tonight

2 lb /900g stewing steak, 2onions, 6 carrots, 12oz mushrooms 7 medium potatoes, I beef stock cube a tin of red kidney beans and yes my tin of Value tomatoes. Oh and a few mixed herbs.

I did not worry about browning the meat today I just threw everything into my big casserole dish and put it in the oven at 170 c it will cook in about 2 ½ -3 hours the longer and slower the better. I added the potatoes today sometimes its good to cook and serve them on their own, but I am being lazy today. When nearly finished I shall thicken the gravy with some gravy powder.
This stew can be adapted to your own tastes it is good eaten with a hunk of fresh bread and it will go a long way. I shall maybe have some reheated tomorrow as casserole or maybe add some curry paste to it and have a portion left to freeze.

Sorry I packed my recipe books away and can not give you a tomato pasta recipe but you will find a lot of recipe books have a basic recipe in. thanks for reading I must go check on dinner now its beginning to smell good.

This review was written October last year and only now do I find the category I requested all that time ago . My kitchen finished the front porch we want adding will be done this week . Then we can redecorate the sitting room . Thanks for reading Mary
