I have noticed that everytime I visit Tesco`s more and more people are scrutinising the prices carefully. Heads are bowed over the shelves and you can sense that everyone is doing calculations in their heads.
Bacon used to be a reasonably priced meal, bacon and eggs with a slice of bread and butter is lovely and tasty.
But just take a look at the price of it lately! If you are looking at the well known brands it has almost become a luxury meal.
I have to be honest and say that if I am making a quiche then I buy the Tesco cooking bacon, at the end of the day it is only going to be snipped into small pieces to put in the pastry case.
We love a bacon sandwich for lunch, it makes a very tasty snack that is much appreciated by the Other Half.

Tesco Value back bacon is well priced at £1.23 for a 250g pack, maybe it isn`t top quality but it cooks well and is tasty.
I find that I have to rummage through the packs in the chiller to find one that I like the look of, we both like a small amount of fat on the edge of the rasher. Another thing that I always watch out for is that the rashers haven`t been cut too far near the shoulder, if I wanted shoulder I would buy it!

There are eight rashers in the plain plastic pack, there is nothing extravagant or fanciful about the packaging which suits me fine. I am a sinner because I love to fry my bacon, grilling it doesn`t cut the mustard with me.
As you put the rashers into the hot fat in the frying pan they sizzle and you do see the water content that is held in the rashers infiltrating the fat.
Because the bacon isn`t overly thick it cooks quickly and after a couple of minutes you see the rashers start to brown nicely.
Both of us love the bacon fairly well done but not crispy!
Take two slices of fresh bread, butter them thickly and load the bacon rashers into the middle, it makes a delicious lunchtime snack. I can almost smell the bacon now...

It may not be the best but it is very passable, at least it has taste!
