Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Cheap, tastes cheap, limp, lifeless, flavourless

I have to admit I am cheap, if I can find a cheaper way of doing something I generally will, most recently this has involved swapping some of my weekly shopping items for tesco value products, its worked well with Chopped Tomatoes being great, Tortilla Chips being pretty damned good and the choc ices and milk lollies having a real taste that i've enjoyed as much as their more illustrious named competitors, so I tried this Bacon and realised sometimes its worth paying more for a bit of taste and quality.

Tesco Value Unsmoked Bacon is £1.25 for a 250g pack which consists of around 8 rashers, the pack is a piece of plastic with the generic Tesco Value symbol on it, the meat looks unappealing, fatty and slightly disgusting actually however i've always thought its whats inside that counts so didn't judge this bacon on its looks.

Unfortunately for me it looks how it tastes, cheap, fatty , filled with salt and limp, when you put some oil in your pan, generally when hot a rasher will start to bubble and cook quite easily becoming hard and well cooked, this bacon sticks to the pan, releases, or rather oozes fat and doesn't cook properly, therefore your left with a fatty, stodgy rasher of bacon that really needs hiding in a stew or something, eating these made the bread the most appealing part of my bacon sarnie and that is just wrong!

A 100g serving contains 120 calories, which isn't too bad, however I recommend going for the cholesterol impacting taste of proper decent bacon and not this prepackaged plastic alternative which gives bacon a bad name, in fact it gives food a bad name, i've eaten fruit that tasted more like bacon than this imposter, even at the low price its a poor alternative for food.

The ingredients include Pork (86%), Water, Honey, Salt, Sugar, Preservatives (Sodium Nitrite, Potassium Nitrate), Antioxidant (Sodium Ascorbate). It also mentions other allergens in the allergy section but helpfully fails to advise what, well to me that tells me that the meat is not of the highest quality and the supplier does not know what it mixed with, so take Captain Cheapo's advice, whatever you do, don't eat this bacon, its not worth it!!

I appreciate some other reviewers do rate this and accept I may have cooked it wrong, but bacon before and after this has come out crispy and beautifully tasty whilst this came out resembling a big plate of melted soap.

Summary: I've eaten Rhubarb that tastes more like Bacon than this!
