The smell once they were finally cooked was quite sensational, I love the smell of leeks anyway so this was a real treat. The sausages had turned a deep brown colour on cooking and were very crispy and firm in texture. Once i cut one open it was obvious that they were stuffed full of the main ingredients and they looked great too. Each sausage contains 135 calories, so two each is a decent portion f...more

Premium Review Tesco Vegetarian Cheese & Leek Sausages: Mammal free sausages for the non-meat minded (885 words)

INTRODUCTION I like vegetarian food and was actually vegetarian myself for a year, and have always had a soft spot for things like meatless sausages and burgers, from the nascent attempts in health food shops over a decade ago, through to Linda McCartney's frozen range and now to the extensive ranges and choices we now enjoy in supermarkets. And boy, have we come a long way in that time. I came across these sausages as part of a 2 for £2 price offer when bought together with some other vegetarian product, so I thought they sounded nice and were worth a go. As someone who doesn't eat piggies, these are on the whole the only sausages I can actually have and so I ...  Read the complete review

I am far from being vegetarian these days but a friend who regularly pops by for tea with me when my other half is away working, does not eat a lot of meat so I tend to stick to veggies treats when I have her company. I recently chose these from Tesco and paid £1.46 for a pack of four sausages. The 'succulent' sausages are made from mixing cheese, leek, onion, potato and chickpeas. They are moulded in to long fat sausage shapes. I oven cooked my sausages for about 16 minutes as suggested on the packet. These can also be cooked from frozen for 22-24 minutes. I could smell the sausages cooking and it did make my mouth water. The ...  Read the complete review

Very tasty vegetarian sausages. Not just for vegetarians, these sausages are a tasty alternative to meat. They can be stored in the fridge or frozen, from frozen they take around 20 minutes at 190 in the oven. They are a little dry perhaps but have a lovely bready texture, like all veggie sausages they avoid the oily texture of sausages and the dreaded gristle that can be so off putting even in quality sausages. Thick and hearty, they come in packets of four and cost around £1.50 per pack. They keep their shape when cooked, they come out crispy on the outside, they do taste cheesy though not in an overpowering way. It is doubtful that ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tasty veggie sausages (167 words)

I like Tesco as they have lots of different vegetarian options, much more varied than other supermarkets. These are a good example. These cheese and leek sausages are really tasty, quite tangy. They have quite a different consistency to Quorn products, which is a pleasant change. They are a good accompaniment to chips or mashed potato - and in the past I have even chopped them up and put them into a casserole for added flavour. I usually cook them in the oven and they come out nicely, the outside crisps up slightly, whilst the inside remains soft. I have tried cooking these on the barbecue; whilst Quorn sausage come out brilliantly, these ...  Read the complete review

I challenge any meat eater to tell me there aren't delicious! Tesco Vegetarian Leek and Cheese Sausages come in a pack of 4 and cost £1.49. Good value as they are so flavorsome and satisfying. They either need to be kept in the fridge or can be frozen. They are a great idea for summer barbeques as they cook well and are great for your vegetarian (and other) guests. On the barbeque they end up with a lovely crispy outside and are all soft and cheesy in the middle. Lovely! If you're not having a barbie, don't worry, you can grill them or put them in the oven for 20 minutes. The flavour is great. Cheesy, and the leeks are not too over powering. Much ...  Read the complete review
