Advantages: Tastes good and have the nutritional qualities
Disadvantages: Not quite up there with Weetabix
There seem to be a lot of variations on the more familiar 'Weetabix' cereal that many of us will have grown up having for breakfast. Tesco themselves have a number of different varieties, from their Value range, which crumble to pieces but don't cost you much, to their stock of Weetabix itself, probably the best but definitely the most expensive.
Sitting proudly in the middle in this product, their own brand (but not Value) regular wheat biscuits. In terms of quality, they aren't actually that bad. I often find that substitutes for Weetabix actually crumble a lot before you get them into the bowl, leaving you almost with a Shredded Wheat effect for half the biscuit. However, these barely crumble at all.
The biscuits, shaped like a chunky biscuit themselves, are sealed within a plastic sealed wrapper, and there are two wrappers in the box. This is good, as it retains the freshness for one half while you set about demolishing the first over the course of a few days' worth of breakfasts.
Nutritionally, they don't rate quite as highly as Weetabix themselves, which boast at providing around a third of the nutrients and vitamins you need each day. However, there are plenty more ways to obtain vits throughout the day, and if, in this current financial climate, you're looking for quality yet saving the pennies, then these are a good buy.
They come in at around two thirds of the price of Weetabix themselves. The Value product is under a third of Weetabix' price, but the thing to remember is that everything is fairly priced here. Sure, you do pay a bit extra for the brand name of Weetabix as opposed to Tesco's own brand of Wheat Biscuits, but the quality comes with it.
So, if you want to retain some quality but reduce the price, then these biscuits are as good an option as any other Tesco cereal product. They taste just as nice as Weetabix, which is obviously a very important part of the experience. Not crumbling and keeping up with vits and other nutrients is important, but if they taste like cardboard, that's no good. Luckily, these taste nice, and I can't actually see a great deal of difference between them and Weetabix.
I recommend this product. Most Tesco stores will stock them, and they roll in at a little over £1 for the pack of 24 biscuits, Good value for a good product.
Summary: A good substitute for Weetabix
