Advantages: taste almost like the branded name

Disadvantages: weird name

I have been getting better with my need for chocolate over the last few months, but the other day the urge was really there for some chocolate. I happened to be in Tesco so was looking around for something to munch on when I spied the Tesco own version chocolate bars in multi packs. They were priced at £1.06 for each multipack which contained around 15 miniature bars, but were also on offer at three packs for £3 so of course I snapped up three different varieties. The saving wasn't that great but I can fool myself when it comes to chocolate, and if I had bought Cadbury multipacks of miniatures then I would have paid a lot higher price anyway.

The wild and whippy bars have a very dodgy name in my opinion and I think Tesco could have done better with the branding, but despite that I was willing to forge ahead and see how true to form these chocolate bars would be in their match against a Milky Way which is what they are imitated on.
The packaging of wild and whippy bars is all blue and they do resemble a Milky Way somewhat in their colouring. The bars themselves are miniature and really only take two small bites to eat them. I wasn't buy a chocolate bar to get a lot out of it so this was fine, and they are on par with branded mini bars in the size.

Once inside the wrapper which is a standard wrapper the same as any other chocolate bar you can buy, I saw the bar did look a lot like a Milky Way, the chocolate was rippled along the top of the bar in the same way, and the milk chocolate was going good on the same colour scheme as the milk chocolate on a Milky Way. I'm sure most milk chocolate is going to look very similar anyhow but even so, it was doing well so far.

The proof of the matter is always going to be in its taste. The wild and whippy does look like a Milky Way when you bite into it, the mallow centre looks similar and has the same texture that I remember from a Milky Way.
Taste wise, I thought it was very good in matching up. The chocolate has a creamy taste to it for own brand chocolate, and it's not something I have come across before. You can usually tell it's a cheaper variety, but this did well. The mallow inside is soft and creamy as well as having a chewy texture. It's perhaps slightly chewier than a Milky Way, but it does do a good job of standing up against it.

These chocolate bars will last us a bit longer than if we bought standard sizes bars as we try to limit ourselves to one at a time. Despite the bar being gone in two bites, you are left with a nice creamy chocolaty after taste from eating one, so they are well worth keeping in the cupboard as a treat when you need a little chocolate fix. I have definitely been swayed by Tesco' own brand chocolate after this experience and if it means I can still get some nice treats as well as saving money then I will be happy.

Summary: a nice cheaper alternative to a milky way

I'd be tempted to buy them on the strength of the name alone!
