Advantages: Delicious and may help to relieve nausea.

Disadvantages: Watch Your Dental Work as with all toffees it could be expensive!

I was looking at the vast array of snacks in my local health food store last week and came across something which I hadn't seen before called "Ginger Chews" by The Ginger People.
The little box intrigued me as on the front was a lovely man made out of a ginger root, he was grinning and looking very cosy laid back on a bag eating something tasty!

So I bought the packet and opened it to find inside 12 individually wrapped chews. Dooyoo have listed these as biscuits but in fact they are sweets.

Before eating one I had a look on the internet at the website of the manufacturer and one or two other sites, and discovered that they are made by a company which is called Royal Pacific. This company has production factories in Australia and California though the box says these are made in Indonesia. In the UK they are imported by a company called World Foods. www.wfbm.co.uk. If you visit their website you can click on the link to The Ginger People and find out some more about them.

The chews are very similar at first when you bite into them to those large round disc like toffees in Quality Street (actually I'm not too keen on those as they were responsible for an emergency dental visit one Christmas) but after the first few seconds you are engulfed in an overwhelming flood of ginger. It really is quite a shock, pleasant in one way and scary in another. Like a very hot chilli you are not expecting! That said the chews are delicious and actually not as hard as the Quality Street ones.
They are 2" long and less than an inch wide.

They are made from only three ingredients cane sugar, ginger, and starch and each sweet has 20 calories and no fat. Amazingly too you can dissolve them in boiling water to make a tea and it's delicious.

These may benefit certain groups such as pregnant ladies experiencing nausea, those prone to travel sickness and to patients receiving chemotherapy.

I loved them and will certainly stock up next time I am due to go on a ferry to the Outer Hebrides where I have been subject to quite a lot of sickly moments- but they were so delicious I might just buy them anyway!

£1.40 for 12

Summary: A great little sweet for travelling and for sickness and makes a great tea too!
