Advantages: Lovely flavours
Disadvantages: Mint Sorbet
Gourmet beans by the Jelly Bean Factory are a cut above the average jelly bean, however they are ridiculously expensive, the Jelly Bean Can which I have costs £6.00 in Debenhams, and only contains 400g.
There is a reason why they are so expensive though, they have much better flavours than your average jelly bean, and they have a greater variety of flavours, 36 in all, ranging from lemon and lime and south seas kiwi to pina colada and cafe latte.
The flavours are printed on the back of the packaging along with pictures of the different colours, so you can eat them in two ways. Firstly you can pick out the flavours you really like by identifying the bean, or you can play guess the flavour by checking up afterwards. This is actually pretty easy as the flavours do taste like what they are supposed to taste like.
I first tried them by receiving a free sample from the company (a feat easier said than done, due to the sheer amount of people who try every day to get samples). And with the free sample came a third way of eating them, they suggest making your own flavour cocktail by mixing and matching various beans.
The only flavour I don't really like is the mint sorbet, I think it's a little too strong for a jelly bean, and I prefer my mints to be proper mints. Although the popcorn flavour took a little getting used to, because it's a toffee popcorn flavour and I prefer butter or salted popcorn.
The good thing about these beans is they last a lot longer than most jelly beans. Even the kids eat them one at a time, rather than shovel a hand full in their mouths all in one go.
For the dietary conscious amongst you the beans are Gelatine, GM, Gluten and NUT Free. I can't see anything on the can that indicates the amount of calories, but you know that these aren't going to be good for you. Why let a little thing like calories get in the way of a gourmet meal!
I bought these at the Eurotunnel supermarket for Euro3.50, which was around £3, so I wish I'd bought a couple of cans now, because I can't see these lasting much longer. They remind me of Pringles, once you pop the lid you just can't stop, they are so moreish.
Summary: Definitely worth buying as a treat or a stocking filler.
