Advantages: Tasty, fun, cheap, masses of flavours, Gelatine free
Disadvantages: None for me.
I picked up a tube of The Jelly Bean Factory gourmet Range of Jelly Beans for 18p, for a 125g tube. Yes you read that right. Just 18p at Asda. I have often seen them about in the shops but would never dream of paying the high price often asked. However at the paltry price of 18p I thought I would give them a try.
We used to east Jelly Beans a few years ago. In fact one of my pleasant holiday memories is regarding taking a large bag of ordinary Jelly Beans on holiday to Greece with us, and eating them slightly frozen out the freezer part of our mini fridge, during the hot evenings. By we know how to live don't we? Although these cheap Jelly Beans are fine they have fairly suspect ingredients and pretty bog standard boring flavours.
Looking at the possible flavours in this tube I was fascinated. It sounded like something bought at the sweet shop in Hogsmead in the Harry Potter Saga. Thankfully there was nothing like snot included.
The flavours listed are:-
Stawberry, Watermelon, Mango, French Vanilla, Granny Smith's Apple, Grape, Butterscotch, Sour Lemon, Blueberry Pie, Pomegranate, Banana Split, Lemon and Lime, Bubblegum, English Blackberry, Pear, Passion Fruit, Cinammon, Cranberry and Apple, Mint Sorbet, South Seas Kiwi, Peachy Pie, Tangerine and more.
Now despite the fact that I only purchased a small tube of these Jelly Beans there was a wide range of the flavours included. I did find that I preferred to eat one at a time as a couple together could give a strange taste sensation.
On the whole the sweets do not look overly bright coloured like some sweets do when they have had too many E numbers added.
For those unsure Jelly beans are small chewy sweets that are shaped a little like a tiny Rugby ball. They have a slightly crispy outer shell with a chewy centre. These Jelly Beans, unlike the cheaper versions, are Gelatine free, which is useful to know.
There are 36 flavours in all to choose from and I enyoed childishly guessing which one I was scoffing each time. Of course you can check the packagig and select your favourite, if you prefer.
Jelly Beans are very sweet and high in sugar. They will be bad for your teeth and fattening. However as an occasional treat, what the hell. These small tubes are perfect. They fit easily into pocekts and small bags. Also this tube limits how many you can scoff at any time. Although even if it was only the 125g in this tube you ate at on sitting, that's a lot of Jelly Beans.
Finally I think these are a great sweet to eat at the cinema as they are not sticky and the type that will melt. They also taste fab if eaten chilled.
The Jelly Bean Gourmet Beans are made in Ireland and heartily recommended.
Thanks for reading

- 22/06/09 Fab review. I love these as they are far more tasty than the Jelly Belly company and not as expensive either. |

- 20/06/09 I love these, I've brought hundreds of these over the years and I only really like half of them. My mates love it though when I used to bring in hte rest o the pot, and they devoured them. 10 boys after one pot, it was war whenever I brought them in. Brill review. Kirsty |
