Advantages: Mint ice cream; low fat and low cal

Disadvantages: Mint flavour could be marginally stronger?

Another sunny Mondy has passed giving me another (tenuous) excuse for ice cream! As you may be able to tell from my other review I like skinny cow ice cream and the first flavour I tried was the chocolate ones. However mint choc chip is one of my favourite flavours of ice cream (when I can find it) so when I saw that skinny cow also made mint double choc ice cream lollies I had to try them.

The mint double choc ice creams are sold in boxes of three, in the packaging pretty distinctive skinny cow black and white cow print boxes, and are stocked in the dessert sections of many supermarket's freezers (although these are not as widely available as the chocolate flavour). When they are available they are quite often on offer in conjunction with other Skinny Cow products.

It is difficult to know what to call these as lollies isn't quite posh enough, what they are is ice cream on a stick, but due to the low cream content they have to be referred to as iced desserts. However, they are not frozen yoghurt as some people mistakenly believe even though they are low cal.

Each ice cream is about the same size as a Wall's Magnum. They are described by the manufacturer as "irresistibly cool mint sticks swirled with a rich chocolate sauce and chocolate pieces". When you open the packet you are greeted by an appetisingly green ice cream lolly speckled with small pieces of chocolate and with a noticeable swirl of chocolate sauce. The ice cream tastes noticeably but mildly of peppermint and the chocolate pieces and sauce are distinctly there and add to the experience. I feel that the sauce is slightly thicker in these ice creams than in the chocolate ones. The ice cream is definitely creamy even though it only contains 1% double cream. I can't decide whether I'd prefer a stronger mint taste but I think in conjunction with the creaminess of the lolly the mildness of the mint is about right. Much stronger and it'd start feeling like ice cream mouthwash!

As a real fan of mint choc ice cream these lollies are a real treat and are definitely different from other products on the market. Even though these are marketed as a healthy option you don't feel deprived eating them or that you are having to compromise in any way, thought they are only 94cals and 1.1g of sat fat. These are definitely a treat that I will be enjoying all summer through and probably even into the winter.

Summary: A luxurious healthy treat for mint ice cream fans
