Advantages: Chocoholics dream

Disadvantages: Don't go if you are attempting to diet!

Everybody knows that Thornton's Continental chocolates are the most delicious thing in the entire universe, but what about Continental Chocolate in a glass?

At the Gretna Gateway Shopping Outlet Village just near Gretna, there is a fantastically unique shop - not only is there a room full of the most delicious Thorntons specialities at low prices (great to stock up for a term as a 'poor student'!) but there is also a Thornton's cafe where they make Thornton's Continental Hot Chocolate.

This most devine hot chocolate is made (as you watch) from a few teaspoons of that superb Thornton's Continental chocolate, then whisked and whirled with frothed milk, topped with thick whipped cream and covered with chocolate sprinkles, served in a tall glass with a single Continental chocolate on the saucer - irresistable!

And for those ultimate chocoholics, try their Caramel slice. Only 99p and yet a huge triangle of sheer delight - and it will ensure you don't eat another thing for the next 6 hours!

They also serve pretty average teas and coffees, cappucinos and mochocinos (also made with Continental chocolate) - but as I have said to my mother many a time, why bother going to a Thornton's, if you aren't going to eat chocolate?!!

My mum and I discovered heaven in a glass on one of my regular trips from Stirling (central Scotland) to university in Durham and have subsequently visited at the beginning and end of each term for our hex-annual fix! Forget service station dish-water coffee, whenever you are travelling from Scotland to England (or vice versa) on the motorway, you simply must stop at the Gretna shops to sample this fantastic beverage and I assure you, you will not be disappointed.
