I'm not diabetic but I have a sugar intolerance and when I found out I thought I would try diabetic treats rather than those containing sugar. Big mistake. Generally they taste nasty and are full of chemicals. It is better to just refrain and have the occasional treat of proper sugar. The have the same sticky chewy texture as ordinary toffee and have a melt in your mouth quality. I quite like the brazil nut version, as the nuts take away the false sweet taste of the toffee. The vanilla version is far far too sweet for me. And not a good sweet - a fake sweet because it has sweeteners not sugar. The major downside, as with all diabetic ... Read the complete review

Thorntons Diabetic Toffee. Firstly let me say that all 'diabetic' food are a rip off and I learnt some years ago that a little ordinary chocolate or toffee every now and again is no big deal, where as packets and packets of 'diabetic' sweets are really, really bad for you. Most companies including Thorntons and Boots charge more for 'diabetic' products and they rarely taste as good as non diabetic ones. There are a few exceptions, and I have to say, these are one. So getting the odd pack of these toffees is a once or twice a year treat. £1.75 - £2.25 is what you will expect to pay for these dependent on store location or online ... Read the complete review

When my mother was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last year, her first words to me were 'What about my Thornton?s chocolates?' You can see she'd got her priorities right! She initially had to follow a fairly strict diet to get her sugar levels under control so sweets were a complete no go area. I tried to find sugar free alternatives to things so that she wouldn't feel too deprived of nice things to eat and she was very positive about the whole thing too.
