Advantages: Delicious, creamy, smooth
Disadvantages: Will undoubtedly be very high in calories
After my Weight Watchers meeting last week I decided I deserved a treat, I had to nip into Thorntons anyway to buy a birthday present for someone and while browsing their range of toffee and fudge I opted for a bar of Vanilla Fudge which looked absolutely delicious judging by the wrapper.
And yes, it was delicious. The fudge is pure and unadulterated, it's not coated in chocolate as most of the Thorntons range is which to be honest was a relief for me as I tend to go against the general consensus when it comes to Thorntons chocolate and believe it's not actually as good as people think it is.
Anyway, back to the fudge! It's a soft creamy colour and the bar is shaped into small segments, although to be honest the fudge doesn't necessarily break off in these segments so if you're the kind of person who likes their food to look neat and tidy then you will need to be rather careful when it comes to breaking a bit off. Personally I pulled the whole bar out of the wrapper and bit it as I frankly couldn't be bothered with trying to break it off into silly little pieces!
The fudge is amazingly smooth and creamy, I personally love proper crumbly fudge but this smooth Thorntons variety is absolutely wonderful. It melts in my mouth even before I begin chewing it and is so moreish that I could have eaten two or three bars of this before feeling sick!
The vanilla flavour is there but not as pronouned as I would have expected, it's quite subtle and comes through as more of an aftertaste than anything else. Mind you, this bar is so sweet that really any individual flavour would have a hard time getting through to my tastebuds. It's sweet in a lovely fudgy way and doesn't taste simply sugary as a lot of cheaper brands of fudge do, I can actually detect the cream in each mouthful which surprised me no end as even in brands which advertise their product as being made with cream I struggle to actually taste it over the sugar.
I paid around 60p for this bar of fudge, which I think is an absolute bargain considering Thorntons charge roughly this for their smaller (but still very tasty) marzipan and cappuccino bars. I can't tell you the calories as a) I didn't keep the wrapper and b) I'd rather not know myself. I doubt it will be good news though!
Summary: A delicious bar of fudge from Thorntons.
