Advantages: They taste lovely
Disadvantages: Calories and fat
I have seen quite a few positive reviews about Toffee Crisp Clusters and since I love Toffee Crisp bars and I love Cadburys Clusters I have been looking out for them so I could try them too. I don't like to think that I am missing out on something so potentially yummy!
I was in Tesco's doing some shopping at the weekend and finally spotted them priced at £1.50 per bag so I treated myself.
The bag of Clusters is bright orange and very eye catching with the same colours and basic design as the Toffee Crisp bars. It has the words Toffee Crisp Clusters written across the front with the Nestle logo above. The wording tells us that these are 'crispy and light crunchy bites'.
There are also the boxes on the bottom right hand corner of the packet giving the basic nutritional information expressed as a percentage of the recommended adult allowance just so that you know what you are getting yourself into!
As with the Cadbury's equivalent there is an element of comedy about the packet - there is a tear off strip at the top which can allegedly be used to reseal the packet so that the remaining contents can be kept fresh. What? Who could possibly eat just a few of these and keep the rest? LOL!
If you are one of those people with iron willpower the idea is that you tear off the top of the pack and then, after eating some of the contents, you can fold over the top of the pack and then stick it to form a seal and keep the remaining contents fresh.
In the name of research (yeah right!) I have now eaten the bag of clusters and am ready to give you the details ..............
I tore the strip off the top of the packet and looked inside and immediately the smell of the chocolate assailed my nostrils making my mouth water. The clusters consisting of pieces of chocolate, crispies and caramel looked very appetising and just the right size to pop into my mouth. The sizes of the clusters do actually vary but they are all pretty much bite size so are very easy to eat one after another - I don't think I would have a problem eating a whole bag to myself in one sitting although I did save some and eat them over two days - be honest you're impressed aren't you?
These clusters tasted like miniature bites of a Toffee Crisp bar which I guess is the whole point of them and I have to say that they were delicious! The mixture of crunchiness and chewiness was just right and the chocolate just added to the experience. Trust me moreish is an understatement!
All I can say is that it is a good job that we have plenty of wood for me to saw for our log burner so that I can work off the calories and get my blood sugar back to where it should be!
Just so that you know the full horror of these lovely little clusters I am going to tell you the nutritional value per 100g (2/3 of a pack) so brace yourselves:
Calories 510
Protein 5.82g
Carbohydrates 58.5g
Of which sugars 41.8g
Fat 26.9g
Of which saturates 15.5g
Fibre 2.2g
Salt 0.2g
There is a note on the back of the packet which reads 'Enjoying chocolate as part of a varied balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle is one of life's little pleasures'.
So there you are, eat them as an occasional treat and make sure that they do form part of a generally sensible diet and there won't be any serious repercussions apart from pure enjoyment and that can't be bad can it?
Summary: Great as an occassional treat!
