Extra Strong Trebor Gum
by Donf18 Intro I've always been a bit partial to Trebor's Extra Strong Mints so when I saw they had brought our a similar chewing gum I thought I'd have to give it a go. Now this was a while weeks back when I first saw the advertisement on TV and it has taken me this long to source some of this gum. I eventually found it for 37p in ... ASDA and although at first slightly disappointed I soon changed my mind. Trebor XXX Gum The packaging is very similar to that of the mints being that it is red a white with the Trebor logo emblazoned acrross it. The packaging was quite nice nothing extravagant just a basic package giving all the info required. The disappointment was brought about by the size of the packet, well to be exact the size of each piece of gum. It is shaped in the traditional way for chewing gums of this type in that it is a small oblong block about 2mm high 2mm wide and perhaps 12mm long. Not a bad size but definitely a little smaller than the standard size. I mean this isn't exactly a big problem but it was kind of a let down. This was soon a mere distant memory as I tasted the first pieace. I was expecting it to be minty being that extra strong mints a quite strong and I can barely finish a whole one. After the initial crunch into the crispy coating, and the gum itself I was rewarded with a blast of almost pure mint. This was to intensify over the next few seconds before mellowing slightly to the bearable point. I didn't find much difference in the actual chewiness of the gum being that it's chewing gum you'd expect it to be chewy. The flavour did last some considerable time although in this process it did become a lot milder than that of the first minty hit. Summary There are 10 pieces in each pack making each piece just over 3p and I guess in this day and age of overpriced goods that 3p might well be one of the better spent 3p I have had the pleasure to part company with. I really enjoyed the sharp minty gum and on reflection feel that had this been the same size as the standard pieces of gum there might just have been too much mint flavour or should that be too strong. All in all it probably is going to be the gum I stick with for a while at least, It's cheaper, has a good strong flavour which lasts, and probably more important I like it a lot. Extra Strong Trebor Gum
by heynonnynonny My friend at work offered me a piece of this chewing gum, and I have to say I enjoy it far more than Wrigleys equivalents. They are owned and made by Cadbury who also produce the Trident range of chewing gums. THe success of Extra Strong Mints by Trebor, or ROBERT if you spell it backwards, has led to the launch of these into the chewing ... gum sector! Price = About 35p, and have as yet not seen it in that many places so maybe is it a new product, cos I have never tried it before a few weeks ago!! I have seen it in B and M bargain madness, but not really looked out for it anywhere else. No doubt it is available within supermarkets and confectioners and the like. Product= The wrapping is paper foil style with an easy open end which stays secure so they do not all fall out in your bag or pocket, I hate it when they get loose and escape all over your bag!! There is a warning on the back of the packet stating that excessive consumption may produce laxative effects, probably this is due to the containing of the Sorbitol ingredient. Sorbitol is a sugar substitute. It may be listed under the inactive ingredients listed for some foods and products. Sorbitol is referred to as a nutritive sweetener because it provides dietary energy: 2.6 kilocalories (11 kilojoules) per gram versus the average 4 kilocalories (17 kilojoules) for carbohydrates. It often is used in diet foods (including diet drinks and ice cream), mints, cough syrups, and sugar-free chewing gum. (Last part taken from Wikipedia for information purposes). Each packet contains 10 pieces of sugar free chewing gum. They are in the little white pellet format rather than the long strips such as Wrigleys do. 2 flavours are available, spearmint and peppermint. As yet I have only had the spearmint but I will be looking out for peppermint. The little white pellets have a crunchy white coating. One small pellet is quite enough for chewing. Flavour= Taste pretty sweet but lovely and spearminty, and the flavour is long lasting and I think heavily rivals Wrigleys, they have come up with a really decent gum here and one I will certainly be purchasing more from now on. The sweetness does fade but I think this is a good thing and you are left with the mint, I am a huge fan of spearmint anyway, but now I may seek the peppermint ones as I enjoy the spearmints so much. In summary, pick these up as a change from Wrigleys, they are lovely!! Read the complete review |

Extra Strong Trebor Gum
by HitchJo My partner came back with the original flavour 2 days ago when we went to the local supermarket. When we were in the car he had one and made a comment that they were hot. I asked if I could try one because I am a fan of the mints that they do. Packet This looks alot like the pack of mints that they do which I ... think is great because you will not get confused of the brand. It stands out from the rest. They come in a 10 piece pack and look exactly the same as every other chewing gum that I have tried. There is a blue pack and a green pack the blue pack is spearmint which I have purchased today. It states that they are sugar free which is good to know. It also states the nutritional information on the back of the pack too. It doesn't have the easy open flap that other chewing gums have which is a dissapointment and the packaging is very easily ripped. The gum The green pack that we had 2 days ago I didn't find hot and minty at all I would say that it was the same as other mint chewing gums and the flavour did not last long at all with it. The spearmint one in the blue pack was mintier but still the flavour dissapears very quickly. It is chewy and doesn't dry up fast you have an hour before the gum has to be changed. Overall I am not that impressed with this product the taste doesn't last long, the packet is difficult to open and keep it together, it hasn't got an unusual or different taste and it is no different to other gums on the market. The only thing that I like about this is the packaging is original. However my partner likes this and continues to buy it how opinions differ I suppose. Read the complete review |
