Anyone growing up in Scotland is aware of the name Tunnocks. They have been around since 1890 and still make the same delicious cakes and biscuits that they always have. I daresay the ingredients have changed over the years but somehow they taste exactly the same as they did when I was young. While at primary school we were taken on a school trip to the Tunnock's Factory to see how cakes and biscuits were made...yes those were the days when school trips finished with a treat or two. We were all given a huge bag of biscuits when we left and mine was practically filled with Tea Cakes, this began my lifelong love of these cakes/biscuits. That is ... Read the complete review

Tunnock's Tea Cakes are a force to be reckoned with. Retained as being one of life's little luxuries, I've often found that this cake is ideal for Sunday evenings, surrounded by the papers and a big pot of tea at the ready. They are of course, "Tea Cakes," by name although with coffee they are also plainly acceptable to wash down with. "Munch Mallows", "Go Ahead" Mallows and supermarket brands - I've tried them all including similar copies with an empire biscuit base bought from Greggs the bakers not so long ago, trying to copy the style of the old fashioned and sensibly British, Tunnock's Tea Cakes. Just like Irn Bru, Tunnock's ... Read the complete review

Tunnocks teacakes are one of the most original and best made in terms of quality chocolate teacakes that are on the market today, not only do they look good, they taste really good too and are not that expensive to buy either. They are basically made up of three different parts. The first is the bottom base which is the really soft biscuit layer, it is quite soft to bite into even though its biscuit and it tastes great. The next is the massive dome of marshmallow which sits on top of the base. Most the other teacakes on the market are only small however these are about 2 or more times the size of those. The marshmallow is also a lot softer and ... Read the complete review

Tunnocks is a company that was established in 1890, in Uddingston, Scotland by Thomas Tunnock. It was exapnded in the 1950's which is when most of the present products were introduced. One particular product which is a favourite of mine are the Tea Cakes. They usually come in a box of six, very similar to the one advertised above. The bright orange packaging boast that they are still a family business, which is quite correct as the founders grandson currently heads the business which employs 550 staff. So what do we get. Well upon opening the box, you will see just how much care has been taken to get the tea cake to you in prestine condition. The ... Read the complete review

I am generally a fan of anything chocolaty and I do like chocolate teacakes in general. While up in Scotland my auntie offered me Turncock's tea cake. They are actually ridiculously popular in Scotland but I hadn't tried one until then. They are 24g white fluffy very sticky mallow encased in a chocolate shell set on a fairly thin chocolate soft biscuit base. The mallow reminds me of the type that are in walnut whips rather than the solid mallow you get in other chocolate teacakes also a bit like snowballs but without the coconut. You also find there is actually no jam in these, which personally I think would improve them. The chocolate is definitely milk ... Read the complete review
