Advantages: Soft fluffy marshmallow

Disadvantages: Fattening and sugary

Having just written a review on Wagon Wheels I now realise that these are quite similar to them, after all they both contain chocolate, marshmallow and biscuit. However I definitely prefer Tunnock's Tea Cakes as they just have that something extra that Wagon Wheels don't.

I buy my Tea Cakes in a pack of 10 for £1.14 from Tesco, this may seem like a lot for 10 biscuits but they are actually quite big and worth every penny especially as it works out at 11p each. They come in a large yellow box which has a clear section in the middle so that you can see most of the Tea Cakes inside. Around the edges of the clear section there is red writing which says "Milk Chocolate" and "10 Tea Cakes" Plus there is a triangle in which it says established in 1890 which is referring to the company. On the back of the packet are the ingredients and the nutritional information.

The ingredients, which I include for those people who suffer from food allergies are:

Mallow 38% (Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Egg Albumen), Milk Chocolate 34% (Sugar, Cocoa Solids (min. 25%), Milk Solids (min. 14%), Vegetable Fat, Emulsifier-Soya Lecithin (E322), Flavouring), Biscuit 28% (Wheat Flour, Vegetable Oil, Sugar, Chocolate (Cocoa Solids (min. 25%), Milk Solids (min. 14%)), Raising Agents (Sodium Bicarbonate and Disodium Diphosphate (E450))

Unfortunately this means that they contain Egg, Cow's Milk, Wheat Gluten and Soya. They are however suitable for vegetarians which is a plus. For those of you who are on a diet these are probably jot good news as each Tea Cake contains:
Calories:
106kcal, 5% of your GDA
Sugar:
8.6g, 10% of your GDA
Fat:
4.6g, 7% of your GDA
Saturates:
2.5g, 13% of your GDA
Salt:
0.1g, 2% of your GDA

As you can see they are very high in saturated fat and sugar and so shouldn't be eaten too often but as an occasional treat they are fine.

Once you have unwrapped one of the tea cakes from it's red and silver foil wrapper you will be able to smell a faint hint of chocolate. Once you bite into it you will see that the milk chocolate isn't very thick but it is enough and is thicker than that in Wagon Wheels. It has a nice sweet taste which goes well with the rather plain but crumbly biscuit inside. The marshmallow is also sweet and is nice and fluffy, there is plenty of it which I think is a good thing as it's the main reason I eat these biscuits. The Tea Cakes are a dome shape with a flat bottom and can be eaten in many different ways, you can either nibble off all the chocolate and eat the biscuit and marshmallow separately or you can just bite into it. I do think that they are too big to get into your mouth whole but that depends on how big your mouth is I guess.

Overall I think that these are a great treat and I often buy them for my husband & I as he just loves them. They have a brilliant taste and the marshmallow has a wonderful texture, the only bad thing about them is that they are high in saturated fat and sugar. I give them 10 out of 10 for their amazing taste.

Summary: Fabulous treat
