Foamy tea cakes (Tunnock's Teacakes)

Today when I went into the kitchen I noticed a box of Tunnocks Teacakes on the work top. This isn't something we usually have so I thought I'd try one as I felt like a snack at the time.

The box is instantly noticeable and would really stand out on the supermarket shelf. It is bright yellow with orange text and a window through which you can see the teacakes. They proclaim stilll to be a family business. They also mention that these teacakes are available in a dark chocolate version. You can buy these in a pack of six of ten. Each teacake is 106 calories. The teacakes are individually wrapped in red and silver foil. All these clashing colours certainly make the box look colourful but to my eye it looks a little cheap.

The teacakes are basically a biscuit base with a huge load of marshmallow on top then all covered with milk chocolate. The marshmallow is the biggest part of the cake and does dominate over the other parts. But it's not marshmallow as I know it, rather it's a bit like a foamy cream. In fact it reminded me of shaving products. At the bottom is the biscuit but this is a bit more like sponge to me, perhaps it's more moist than normal having been next to the mallow as it was much softer than I had exepcted from a biscuit. The chocolate was not outstanding but not a disappointment either, simply average.

The problem for me was that it felt like there was nothing to them. The mallow was a bit nothing for my tastes and I know that some people like that barely there thing but I felt completely unsatisfied. Were the mallow a bit more solid I might have been a bit happier. To sum up, just a bit too unsubstantial for me...

Summary: Would not buy these myself
