Advantages: Quite Light

Disadvantages: Very Fragile

I am generally a fan of anything chocolaty and I do like chocolate teacakes in general. While up in Scotland my auntie offered me Turncock's tea cake. They are actually ridiculously popular in Scotland but I hadn't tried one until then.

They are 24g white fluffy very sticky mallow encased in a chocolate shell set on a fairly thin chocolate soft biscuit base. The mallow reminds me of the type that are in walnut whips rather than the solid mallow you get in other chocolate teacakes also a bit like snowballs but without the coconut. You also find there is actually no jam in these, which personally I think would improve them. The chocolate is definitely milk chocolate not very creamy though, reminds me of the cheaper chocolate such as a supermarket brand.

The wrappings are silver and red and minimal just thin foil, which does mean it rips easily. I believe they are nicknamed cricket balls in Scotland? The chances of them getting damaged in transit is actually quite great as the chocolate shell is pretty brittle so be careful bringing them home from the supermarket .The box actually looks like it won't be out of place in a museum , very old fashioned but that suits the product they have been around since 1890! This also means I wouldn't really recommend them for picnics or snacking out and about.

My two girls love them but be prepared for lots of mess, for little ones there is no possible way to eat these without getting in a mess.
They retail under £2.00 for a box of 10 so good value, probably best on a Saturday watching the footie with a nice brew!

Summary: Nice Treat
