Advantages: Delicious, Very Light
Disadvantages: A bit sticky
Tunnocks is a company that was established in 1890, in Uddingston, Scotland by Thomas Tunnock. It was exapnded in the 1950's which is when most of the present products were introduced.
One particular product which is a favourite of mine are the Tea Cakes. They usually come in a box of six, very similar to the one advertised above. The bright orange packaging boast that they are still a family business, which is quite correct as the founders grandson currently heads the business which employs 550 staff.
So what do we get. Well upon opening the box, you will see just how much care has been taken to get the tea cake to you in prestine condition. The cakes are wrapped in individual foil wrappers, confirming ingredients etc, in case they are sold seperately.
The Experience
Upon opening the wrapper you are met with a round shortbread base covered with a hemisphere of a whipped egg white concoction similar to marshmallow. This is then coated with delicious Milk Chocolate, which covers all of the cake (including the base). The cake itself is extremely delicate, and can be easily squashed, hence the reason for boxing it in the first place. I usually bite through the 'marshmallow' first and then eat the shortbread. I love the 'marshmallow' taste and as you would expect it melts in your mouth (and on your fingers). The biscuit itself is also delicious.
