Advantages: Nice taste, Good value

Disadvantages: Gone too quickly!

I have to say it. I’m a bit of a fan of the Twix bar. Come to think of it, that’s probably why I am doing this review!

The Twix has been around for a long time, I can’t give you an exact date when it first appeared but I can remember being around ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper…which is a few years ago now, unfortunately!

Here’s an interesting(?) Twix fact. For years in Europe they used to be called Raider, but last time I went to abroad (last year) they were back to being called Twix! Crazy, huh? Looks like globalisation has had its wicked way again with everything having to be the same wherever you go!

Anyway I digress…back to the review of the Twix then. I think it’s fair to say you can find this particular product pretty much where ever you go these days. Twix will usually retail from around 30p to 36p. Well worth the money, although I remember them being a lot cheaper when I were a lad!

The Twix wrapper has remained pretty much unchanged through the years. It is still instantly recognisable on the shelf, resplendent in its gold livery. A large Twix logo is emblazed on the front of the packaging; I believe this has also stayed pretty much the same down the years. The one thing that has altered is that the packaging is now foil based as opposed to the old paper style packing of years gone by. These days there always seems to be some competition or another being advertised on chocolate bars and Twix is no different! At the moment we have a Text 2 Win competition on this Twix packet.

The packaging is quite easy to open on this Twix bar. Thankfully it isn’t like some of these new foil packets, where you are required to embark on a battle of wits with the wrapping as you struggle to get the damn thing open!!

The Twix is a twin chocolate bar affair, which for my mind always makes me feel like I am getting a bit more for my money, although clearly in reality I’m not! Keeps me happy though to imagine that I am!

The two Twix fingers are covered in milk chocolate, with a rippled texture to this chocolate. Surprise, surprise the colour of this covering is, yep you’ve guessed it… brown!

Underneath this covering there is a finger of biscuit and a layer of caramel. I like the taste of the milk chocolate used on the Twix. It has a slightly different tang to it than the milk chocolate made by Cadbury’s and so makes a welcome change.

Taking a bite of a Twix finger, I’m struck by the crunchiness of the biscuit. It seems that this foil packing really does help to keep the biscuit a lot fresher. I also believe that they have recently changed the biscuit recipe to give it some extra crunch.

The caramel layer is smooth and acts as a nice contrast in texture to the crunchiness of the biscuit finger. When this combined with the chocolate layer, you are given a nice mixture of tastes and textures in each bite.

The good thing about these twin chocolate bars is that when you have finished enjoying your Twix finger, you still have another other finger waiting to be consumed!

Taking an average price of 35p, I think that the Twix is pretty good value for money. It doesn’t seem remarkably expensive to me, especially considering how much a lot of food products seem to have gone up in price over the last few years!

How to sum up this Twix bar then? Well, I would recommend it to anybody who wants a decent tasting chocolate bar with a nice bit of variety in the taste and texture. I think it’s also well worth trying out considering the competitive price it sells at.

Thanks for reading!
