Advantages: Tastes delicious, the biscuit is wonderfully crunchy

Disadvantages: Can be too sweet

Arrrrgghhhhhh. I go into the totally useless Londis to find the chocolate counter practically empty and the assistant (who looked about 12, by the way!) informed me they (and I quote): 'forgot to put the order in last week so they've got to let the stock run down' and then went back to playing snake on her phone. Grrrrrrr

But look! Sitting in the place where the Dairy Milk should be I can see a solitary gold wrapper. Is it? It can't be! It is - YES, they've got one Twix bar left and all I've got to do is beat a rather obese man with a gleam in his eye to it. Things are flying as we both race towards it but he trips and adds vital seconds to his quest allowing my sweaty fingers to grasp the corner of the Twix and toss it into my basket. MINE. A triumphant look at the fat man, I flick my hair and go and pay. I think cruelly of offering him my hand to shake but I think that would be at the risk of getting my face slapped so I settle for singing 'We Are The Champions' under my breath while he's behind me waiting to pay for his boring old Lion bar.

Open the shiny gold wrapper and you've got not one but 2 bars of chocolate. Granted, each bar is smaller than a normal sized chocolate bar but it's easy to convince yourself you're getting more! You have to get your nose pretty close to the bar to smell anything and even then all I could smell was a vaguely chocolatey and very sweet aroma. The finger of Twix itself resembles a long straight piece of cat poo to be honest - it's chocolate covered and has got a ribbled effect on the top with little minute cracks all over it. This is where the resemblance to cat poo ends...

Now, before I bite let me tell you there are lots of ways to eat a Twix. You can suck the chocolate off until you end up with a soggy lump of caramel and biscuit, you can nibble the chocolate away or (my favourite) 'peel' the caramel off with your teeth and eat that first and then you end up with the biccie base and chocolate. Call me boring, but for this review I'm going to simply bite it.

The biscuit is the first thing you notice, it's so crunchy. I usually find that when biscuit is coated with chocolate it normally goes a bit soggy or (as in Fox's Echo) the manufacturer tries to overcome this by using a rock hard biscuit to give a bit of leeway for the 'sog' factor. Not so with a Twix. This biscuit is so crunchy that it covers you with tiny crumbs after biting it and if it wasn't for the caramel and chocolate holding it together, the biccie would collapse! It's quite a sweet biscuit, more of a digestive taste than anything but possibly with undertones of a shortbread taste. The thick layer of caramel on top compliments the biscuit perfectly. Don't think caramel as in the runny stuff that Cadbury's use in their Caramel bar, this a 'solid' strip of caramel which stretches slightly a bit like mozzerella cheese when you bite it. It's very sticky and very, very sweet, to the point that it can be a bit overwhelming if you haven't got a sweet tooth. I HAVE got a sweet tooth so no problem for me there! All this is encased in a thinish jacket of smooth milk chocolate, which you can't really taste over the combined sweetness of the caramel and biscuit. Prising a small piece of the chocolate from the bar, I taste it and to be honest it's not a strong flavour of chocolate - it seems to have absorbed the taste of the caramel somewhere along the line and this is all I can taste.

Together, the flavours work beautifully. As you bite into it, your teeth sink through the chocolate into the soft layer of caramel and then you have to bite together to get through the biscuit. Absolutely delicious. I've got to add here that (for me) a Twix isn't always delicious. Sometimes it's just too downright sweet and gooey and as far as chocolate bars go there isn't really a lot of chocolate to speak of. But if a Twix feeling comes on (and it doesn't very often), I'd walk miles for one!

I paid 40p for this 58g Twix from Londis, but they're available EVERYWHERE. Every now and again they bring out a limited edition *triple choc* Twix, which is the normal coating of chocolate covering choc flavoured caramel and chocolate bisuit - this really is chocolate heaven. If you want one of these be quick though, if you see them grab a couple cos they're never out for long..... or grab 10... or 20...

Summary: A sweet treat

A fascinating review, nominated! Obese men and cat poo? What a pleasant review! Yet, I still crave a Twix now! xx

Prefer a choccie bar to be completely chocolate but this is good with a cuppa. Belinda

I'd be happy eating the caramelly stuff and leaving the biscuit....
